Mixed Martial Arts (Official Thread)

If you like effort, this was the fight for you...

Faber's right hand was broken in the 1st round, and he still put in a solid 5 rounds. Anytime he threw with the right, it was the elbow.. the left was too predictable. A couple times he was in pain just trying to clinch his hands together behind Brown's neck.. toward the very end of the fight Faber damn near had it won, but I don't think his right hand was in any shape to clinch the choke.. helluva fight.

Y! Sports exclusive: Kimbo gets TUF

LAS VEGAS – Kimbo Slice, the controversial heavyweight who in 2008 headlined the most-viewed mixed martial arts card in history, will be one of 16 contestants on the forthcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s reality TV series.

Dana White, the UFC’s outspoken president, has repeatedly mocked Slice for his lack of fighting ability. Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, became a cult figure by competing in street fights that were posted on YouTube. Slice’s “bouts” drew tens of millions of views and led him to turn professional.

He fought for the now defunct Elite XC, garnering massive media attention but getting mocked by White and others affiliated with the UFC for a lack of ability.

Contd....

UFC 100 tonight pretty excited. I got Alves, Hendo, and Lesnar in the big three fights.
I really think Alves is the guy that can match up with GSP although GSP has been on a terror of late. Alves is just a huge 170 and he can bang with GSP. His key is to stay off his back.
Hendo versus Bisbing is a pretty even match up but I think Hendo is going to pull this out. I look for it to go all three rounds.
Lesnar versus Mir is an interesting match up, Mir's stand up game has improved a lot lately. I just don't see Mir beating Lesnar though unless he catches him in an armbar or leg lock. I am really excited to see them exchange a little bit but I just don't know that Mir can outwrestle Lesnar. He is such a strong human being with such a great wrestling background.

Well, I got two predictions right. GSP has by far the best wrestling in MMA period right now. He is so tough to take down and he takes people down like its no problem. Lesnar is just so big and so strong. He basically schoolyard grabbed Mir's head and just punished him. Hendo's knockout was vicious, and I like how he added a punch after wards to "shut him up". One of the better cards , for good reason, in a while. I am equally excited for 101 though.

I seriously thought blew his chance at fame/fortune when he left the WWE for football, never would have guessed he'd go the MMA route and be just as successful. He may make even more money than when he was with WWE, debateable though.

I was so glad to see Hendo knockout Bisping. That was a hell of a punch and the extra blow to the face when he was down was awesome. GSP is just unbelievable, his takedown ability is top of the sport. He tossed around Thiago like he was a piece of meat.

I love the fact that GSP could possibly be moving up to middle weight to fight Silva...could get interesting if he does.

Dana White says Fedor Emelianenko will fight in the UFC, Brock Lesnar fight imminent

Prior to this past Saturday's UFC 100 event, an underground movement took root and called for mixed-martial-arts fan who would attend the show to begin "Fedor!" chants throughout the night.

The thought, of course, was to make UFC executives well aware of the fans' desire to have Fedor Emelianenko, the world's top-ranked heavyweight and arguably the greatest MMA fighter in the division's history, fighting in the octagon.

The chants were never heard, but after UFC 100, UFC President Dana White said he wants Emelianenko in the UFC, that it's eventually going to happen, and that a fight with Brock Lesnar is imminent.

Lesnar, the former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar and NCAA Division I national wrestling champion, picked up his third consecutive UFC victory and first-ever title defense with a dominant second-round TKO of interim title-holder Frank Mir in UFC 100's main event.

With Lesnar's current streak of wins over Heath Herring, then-champ Randy Couture and now Mir, many are looking to possible future opponents for the seemingly invincible ground-and-pound machine.

Emelianenko, the former longtime PRIDE heavyweight champion, is the man many see as most likely to topple Lesnar. At 30-1, with back-to-back Affliction wins over two former UFC champions (Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski) and a 26-0 record (with one no-contest) over the past nine years, many fans are clamoring for the Russian fighter to take on the top talent in the world's premier fight organization.

"This Fedor thing has gone on and on and on," White said in the post-UFC 100 press conference. "Eventually, Fedor's going to be here. I want Fedor. I want him to come to the UFC and everything else.

"This guy (Brock Lesnar) just won the heavyweight title, and we'll end up getting that deal done. And then we'll do Brock vs. Fedor, and it'll be a huge fight."

How soon could we such the fight?
Cont..
