Third Fight

Gina Carano V Kaitlin Young
(Let me say, I'd bang Gina Carano, I would say I would "hit it" but she could take that the wrong way and kick my ass!)

Called at the end of the second round, this was the fight so far. Gina Carano winner.

Fourth Fight

Middleweight Title Fight
Champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler V Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith

Best fight of the night, stopped, over a finger in the eye. I understand that CBS want's to highlight the safety, but that sucked.

Stopped 3:26 in Round 3, Declared No Contest.

It sucks because us folks on the west coast had to wait until 9 pm OUR TIME, when the fights started at 9 eastern.

Network TV did a piss-poor job of translating this sport to the public. They put on fireworks, had singers and dancers, that's not what UFC's all about. And they stopped the fights too early. The reason MMA/UFC is growing so fast, is the public loves the no-frills brutality of it. Simple introductions, let's get it on, blood, and someone gets choked the fuck out.

If they wanted pyrotechnics and music numbers, they'd watch that WWF bullshit.

I give it a D.

I too had hoped they wouldn't do the over the top crap, but they did. Kimbo and Thompson both looked so terrible it's not even funny. That pathetic attempt at ground n' pound by Thompson was truly pitiful. Kimbo was gased by the third and looked terrible on the ground. The Lawler Smith fight was obviously the fight of the night, and was one of at least two questionable stoppages.

In all, this really was not a good look for Elite XC and CBS.

From what I've been reading on a MMA board, this is Kimbo's third questionable win. Apparently he might have tapped earlier in the match? And from what I've been hearing the injury that the opponent had was just his ear, and wasn't really a good reason to end the match?

I've only recently watched MMA (mainly WEC), so I'm no expert. That's just what I've heard, and it sounds pretty shitty. Kinda glad I didn't watch it.

I went to bed after the Carano-Young fight. Too 'flashy' for me with all the fireworks and dancers. I felt like I was watching the WWE. Nothing but a bunch of washed up fighters.

Kimbo wasn't ready to tap. He gave a freaking thumbs up to the ref :P.

I think Kimbo seriously destroyed James Thompson. Obviously Kimbo needs help on the ground, but in the third round, Kimbo absolutely RIPPED Thompson.

Thompson's ear freaking exploded, but even if there wasn't stoppage, I'm pretty sure Kimbo would have knocked Thompson the heck out. Thompson was one foot out of the door of consciousness.

Nasty ear, by the way... How does it get so bad??

I'm pretty sure that was the sorriest card I've ever seen. The best fight was between the two ladies. The middleweight title fight wasn't bad, but the stoppage was pretty silly. I got the impression that CBS didn't want to have anyone get hurt and take PR beating for it.

The Kimbo fight was...well, I'm sure someone made a lot of money from it. It sure as hell wasn't very entertaining nor was it very interesting. Kimbo can't do anything on the ground, has no submission defense, pitiful cardio, no wrestling defense (anyone see how he got taken down by the world's slowest, weakest double leg?) and benefited from some...er, creative officiating. It might sound like I'm just hating on the guy, but he really got exposed as being one-dimensional. He's can bang pretty well, but there's a hell of a lot more to MMA than throwing haymakers.

I really, really hope Tito Ortiz signs with EliteXC and fights up a weight class. Kimbo wouldn't last 1 round against Ortiz, who is well past his prime. Then we can stop hearing about THE MAN THEY CALL KIMBO. What a fucking joke. That way we can be rid of two annoying fighters at once: Ortiz goes to EliteXC and we never have to see him again, and Kimbo stops being vastly overhyped.
