Sylvia Departs UFC, Wants Fedor

For the first time in three years, former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia will compete outside the Octagon.

The 6-foot-8 mixed martial artist announced his departure Friday evening during an appearance on HDNet's "Inside MMA."

"I've pretty much come to a crossroads in my career," Sylvia said. "And there's a lot of big things happening in the MMA world, and especially outside of the UFC."

ESPN - Florian halts Lauzon; Maynard, Diaz also win - MMA

Florian halts Lauzon; Maynard, Diaz also win

BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Maybe it was the mile-high altitude. Maybe it was Kenny Florian's determination. Either way, Joe Lauzon couldn't make it out of the second round Wednesday in the main event of UFC Fight Night at the Broomfield Events Center just outside of Denver.

After an opening stanza that was about as close as it gets, Florian, a former UFC lightweight title challenger, stepped on the gas and refused to relent until the very end. He had Lauzon fully mounted, and when the Brockton, Mass., resident couldn't buck him off or find a way to slither out, Florian unloaded dozens upon dozens of elbows and punches.

Referee Herb Dean had no other option but to step in and halt the skirmish.

'Butterbean'-Smith Now Headlining Yamma

Things have gotten even more complicated for Yamma Pit Fighting.

After a whirlwind of replacements, Sherdog.com has learned that Pat Smith will face Eric "Butterbean" Esch on Yamma's April 11 debut card in Atlantic City. Smith's manager, Tommy Rojas, confirmed the bout to Sherdog.com Wednesday evening.

Smith replaces Gary Goodridge, who was originally slated to face Esch. However, FiveOuncesofPain.com reported on Wednesday that the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board, which has oversight on Yamma's card in Atlantic City, revealed that Goodridge would not be approved to fight due to health and safety concerns stemming from his knockout by Mu Bae Choi in South Korea on March 30.

Dana White won?t permit Silva-Jones Jr. fight

Although preliminary discussions are underway for a boxing match between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and boxing champion Roy Jones Jr., UFC president Dana White would not permit the fight to happen if terms are reached.

White, who would have veto power over such an event because of Silva?s contract with the UFC, made the comments to Dave Meltzer in the print edition of Wrestling Observer.

The potential fight has been discussed since last month?s UFC 82 event, when Silva mentioned that he?d welcome the challenge.

I haven't heard anything about this Thompson fight yet, but I guess he will be a decent challange...he's lost 6 of his last 8 fights though, so he may only be a hair better than Tank. As far as Lidell, he needs to stop hating and worry about himself. Kimbo didn't just walk down the street and punch people. It was Miami's own local version of MMA. The word on the streets was anyone who wanted to run it...then come on down. Gannon came from Boston, the guy Adryan was supposedly the toughest bouncer in Daytona. All the guys he fought none of us would want to meet in a dark alley. He graduated from that and now here he is... he didn't use a video of punching random people as his resume.

me too I guess. At least Liddell has fought someone good. Another shit bag opponent? I understand Kimbo is new to this but with the hype comes the responsibilty of fighting someone decent. Thompson has lost 6 of his last 8 fights and his last win was against a 40+ year old Don Frye.... Another 45 second Kimbo fight, yippee......

Maybe it's me I don't think the hype for Kimbo is that ridiculous. Talking to anyone that knows MMA I don't think anyone is under the illusion that he's better than Fedor, Big Nog, Fujita, Mark Hunt, Gonzaga, Werdum, etc. I'm not sure if anyone outside of someone who makes an active effort to follow mma would know about him. I compare him to some body like Brock Lesnar not in ability but maybe hype. People were excited to Brock fight because he had a name before MMA and sold a ton of PPVs against Mir. However I don't think anyone was under the illusion he was going to come and win a title off of the bat. He had a name before MMA and he used it to his advantage. Same thing I think Kimbo is doing here.

I don't know. Chuck wrestled in college. He has one of the best takedown defenses in the game, and is a legend. As much as I like seeing him get knocked out, I'll take Chuck's side on this one.
