Mixed Martial Arts (Official Thread)

I don't see why so many people give kimbo shit. If it was any other fighter who had a couple actual fights under his belt half the people who talk would say "well give him some more time and he will be fine"....So what he's a street fighter..I'd personally enjoy seeing a bare knuckle bar fighter beat up a 103942340234234234 degree black belt.

He is going to protect his whole selling point...When and if he get's ko'ed he will lose a lot of his momentum with the internet cult following. He's going to do everything he can to keep that intact.

I actually sent Dayton a PM with a question he had. Right now there is no plan in place for Kimbo to fight Shamrock. And let's just say...Kimbo is treating and taking fighting very intense. Even when he's out and about now, he's "amped" up and "chatty" about fighting anybody, anytime, anyplace.

talking about it and doing it are 2 different things. Forrest is a good fighter but if he KO'd Kimbo that would have to freak out the Kimbo people a little. Griffin is around 25 lbs lighter than Kimbo. Can't wait to hear Kimbo's next opponent, Starbucks is he going to fight again in the next 2-3 months?

I haven't heard this "supposed" Forrest Griffin story. It comes from a third maybe fourth party on a message board...so FWIW. Then again, I haven't asked about it...but will. I don't buy it though. I think they may had been talking literaly from their opinion... but not actually. Who knows.

I don't think he'll fight in March or April. He usually cleans up 3 months outside his of fights...but is "enjoying" himself right now. I was hearing Lesner earlier...but Shamrock makes sense for Showtime. But, nothing has been put together yet.

cool keep us in the loop. The Kimbo-Lesnar fight would be a big draw and I think a very exciting fight. Not sure that Kimbo wants to go against a guy that is that big and that good of a wrestler quite yet, but if he could KO Lesnar that would shut a lot of people up. Not me, but a lot of people.....:wink2:

Remember that Kimbo is 2 fights into his mma career. Top 10 Heavyweight in the world no way but give the guy a chance to build his career before he has to fight Fedor to prove himself.

The most baffling thing about MMA to me is that fighters don't unionize. For the buys on ppvs and gate their fights are drawing they're making chump change. From what I understand most top fighters in MMA aren't even getting the money that undercard people on a De La Hoya Mayweather are getting.

Dayton-

Here's a nice little blurb I found on that subject:

Link

In comparing the pay scales of boxing and MMA, particularly the UFC, it is important to consider the differences in each sports respective business models. Boxing promotions generally operate on an event to event basis with small full time staffs. Third party partners are the key to producing successful events in this model.

As a result boxing promoters have lower overhead and can afford to pay fighters higher guarantees since they receive more contracted fees (site fees, broadcast fees, major sponsorships, etc.). These advantages come at the expense of creative control, which isn't that important in a business model designed to maximize current profits, the future be damned.

Evans steps in to face Chuck

The Ultimate Fighter season two winner Rashad Evans has signed to face Chuck Liddell in the main event of the upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship show on June 7 in London. MMAWeekly.com confirmed the bout late Wednesday.

Liddell was slated to face former Pride champion Mauricio ?Shogun? Rua, but the Brazilian had to drop out do to a recurring knee injury that will require surgery.

Evans has long been rumored to face Brazilian light heavyweight Thiago Silva as a part of the May 24 card featuring B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk in the main event, but will instead step in to take Rua?s place.

Liddell is coming off of one of the biggest wins of his career, a unanimous decision over Wanderlei Silva at UFC 79.

After fighting to a draw with Tito Ortiz at UFC 73, Evans returned to headline UFC 78 in New Jersey edging out a split decision win over England?s Michael Bisping.

Ray Lewis to take a stab at Ultimate Fighting? - Shutdown Corner - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Ray Lewis to take a stab at Ultimate Fighting?

In a story that's roughly 100% awesome and 0% believable, MediaTakeOut.com is reporting that Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis is close to signing a deal with Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Media Take Out makes up reports:

According to a person who works at U.F.C., the Baltimore Ravens star linebacker and the league have been negotiating for months and are close to closing the deal. The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, "Ray Lewis was an All-American wrestler in high school, and he's just an all around bad a**. He'll fit in perfectly here."

And the insider claims that the deal wouldn't interfere with Ray's NFL career. He explained to MediaTakeOut.con, "We're not looking to sign him on full-time, just a match or two a year - and he can handpick the opponent ... He has such a big name that it will do wonders for the sport."

Fedor's Free Agency Fallout

Confirmation Thursday of a rumor that circulated for weeks has made Fedor Emelianenko the most sought-after free agent in mixed martial arts.....again.

The move by Emelianenko, first reported by ESPN, immediately rekindled talk of the Russian heavyweight fighting in the UFC, perhaps even against Randy Couture .

Ultimate Fighter 7 Cast Members Announced

One of the fighters, Luke Zachrich, grew up in my neck of the woods (NW Ohio). I've had the pleasure of getting to know Luke over the years and can't wait to see him kick some ass on the show.

The Ultimate Fighter 7 debuts on April 2 and features fighters from the middleweight division. For the first time in the history of the show, there will be 32 fighters instead of the normal 16 in the tournament. Also, every fighter will fight before earning a spot in the infamous 'house.' The coaches are UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (29-6) and the first-ever Ultimate Fighter, Forrest Griffin (15-4). The two coaches will square off for the title at UFC 86 in July, but they will coach their teams on the show first.

Cage Rage was fairly entertaining tonight. Frank Shamrock still get billed as the world's most dangerous man and getting completely dominated by some British jobber is . If he fights Kimbo he'll get dropped quickly.

Imanari vs. Jean Silva was a good fight. Imanari won by a heel hook. He's the master of leg locks.

ESPN - 'Buzz' stings Shamrock at Cage Rage - MMA

'Buzz' stings Shamrock at Cage Rage

LONDON -- Robert "Buzz" Berry shocked sold-out Wembley Arena on Saturday and knocked out MMA legend Ken Shamrock in the first round at Cage Rage 25.

Berry started with some hard low kicks before using a pistonlike jab to keep his veteran opponent at a distance. Shamrock, however, did not appear to be troubled for the first couple of minutes, as he repeatedly caught the punches and looked for his chance to surge forward.

A wild flurry of punches from Shamrock, a forefather of modern MMA, gave the 44-year-old heavyweight a chance to get inside. Berry, however, used his 20-pound weight advantage to manhandle Shamrock and escape from the clinch.

I think it's about time for Shamrock to call it quits
