Mixed Martial Arts (Official Thread)

Anyone watch the early UFCs and remember Joe Son losing to Keith Hackney via repeated groin shots (which were then not against the rules)? Son also had some other theatrics (carrying out a cross on his back, wearing a bikini bottom to fight in), and appeared in Austin Powers as a bad guy. He was incarcerated last month (dna match to an old gang rape, no less), and now he is believed to have beaten his cellmate to death. Can't help but think that things might have gone differently for Son but for the TKO to the nuts.

Cellmate of 'Austin Powers' actor beaten to death

The California state prison cellmate of an actor from the first "Austin Powers" movie was beaten to death, local coroner's officials said Wednesday.
An autopsy performed Wednesday showed 50-year-old inmate Michael Graham died of "multiple blunt force injuries," the Kern County Coroner's Office said. The death was a homicide, the office ruled.
Guards found his body Monday evening in the cell at Wasco State Prison he shared with 40-year-old Joseph Son, who appeared in 1997's "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery." He wore a bowler hat and played one of Dr. Evil's henchmen, named Random Task, and was a mixed martial arts fighter.

 Hate that Nick Diaz put such a beating on BJ Penn, but I just don't feel BJ's mind is too into MMA at this point in his life. He just doesn't have the quickness he once had. One of my favorite fighters of all time.

That being said, Nick Diaz has finally hit his prime and I really like what I'm seeing. Yeah he's disrespectful, but without that cockiness, what fun is the sport? GSP has become a robot, sure there's a language barrier, but is there any more boring a fighter in press conferences?

I'm looking forward to this fight, once again! As I was when it was originally slated.

Finally, a tidbit from my favorite BJ Penn fight:

What an amazing career, if in fact he does retire.

If GSP is on BP, he's going to come knock you out TooTall...

Again, GSP will win this fight, no doubt in my mind. GSP! GSP! GSP!

He will rush Diaz. There's no way his step jab will work on mean face. I could see GSP getting tangled up on the ground and losing though. That will be the only way. He will have a hard time at first with standup though JMO. Diaz is the best boxer in the UFC imo.

Two mixed martial artists from Oregon were in Los Angeles for a grappling tournament, but they ended up using their skills to do much more than win a match. They subdued an armed robber who was holding up the clerk at their hotel. Watch the security video in this report from KCAL-TV.
Brent Alvarez runs Twisted Web MMA in Eugene, Ore., and Billy Denney is his student. They were walking through the hotel lobby when they saw the robber, who had gone behind the hotel's counter, pulled out a gun, and demanded money. The clerk handed over the cash, but yelled for help. Alvarez and Denney jumped on the robber, and while Denney controlled his wrists, Alvarez sunk in a rear naked choke. They held him in place until police arrived.

This coming Saturday may officially bury boxing...

A PPV-level fight for free....hopefully this leads to these guys making what they deserve.

Depends on how big an audience watches it. I would assume the numbers are going to be huge given the fighters on the card. Plus, like I said before, JDS-Cain is going to be an absolute BRAWL for the Heavyweight Championship.
