Minny at tOSU, Sat. 11/18, 4pm, BTN

If I remember correctly, back in those days WOSU showed the game the next day with Paul Warfield on the broadcast team. Most OSU games were not shown on TV live (in fact, the rule at one time was only 3 times in 2 years and The Game was always shown.)
I don't remember that rule. I do remember listening to a lot of games on the radio, but it wasn't the majority. And I started watching in 1986. I think by then, most games were shown on TV.
But yeah - I remember wanting to rush home from church on Sunday so we could watch the replay of the game on WOSU.
I want to say a couple of years later, Ohio State had an opponent who had a punishment that they couldn't be shown on television. As a result, Ohio State couldn't be shown on television that game. And it was already "odd" that that game wasn't on TV.

I still remember a 31 point comeback win over Minnesota in 1989:

Football Flashback: Buckeyes Tie NCAA Record in Comeback Win at Minnesota in 1989 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State trailed Minnesota, 31-0, but staged an incredible comeback and defeated the Gophers 41-37, tying the record for the largest deficit overcome by a Division I-A team.

Only on Nov. 10, 1984 — when Maryland rallied from a 31-0 deficit to beat Miami of Florida 42-40 — had an NCAA Division I-A team ever finished such a comeback.

“It definitely was a great comeback. Had to be the greatest,” said Carlos Snow, who caught two TD passes. “It certainly was the greatest game I’ve ever been a part of. I’m proud to have been in it.”

The Buckeyes had to overcome six turnovers to beat the Gophers for the eighth straight year and the 20th time in 21 meetings since 1969.

Even though it blew a lead of historic proportions, Minnesota still had a chance to win. But Steve Rhem could only get one hand on Scott Schaffner’s 22-yard pass into the end zone as time expired.

This was a remarkable comeback for several reasons. Minny really had their run game going even in the second half. OSU didn't get any "cheap" TDs (INT return, punt return, short field). Minny didn't turn the ball over except 1 time (and OSU promptly gave it back on the next play). OSU really earned that victory. Greg Fry was very accurate.

I don't know I remember listening to a lot of those games on the radio. But we didn't have cable where I was in Delaware County until the 90s. Pretty sure by then many games were televised, but in the Mid 90s, I lived out west (Nevada), and was stuck with regional coverage, and no radio. So for the 1996 game against Penn State I had to follow the score on the Chyron of Headline News.

Good call on the cable part. We didn't have cable, either, until about 92. If the game was on cable, I'd find somewhere to go to watch it.
But yeah - I do remember listening to some games on the radio. And there may well have been a "3 games every 2 years" rule - I'm not disputing that. I just don't remember it, and by the late 80's, I think most (definitely not all) games were at least televised in Columbus.

I just checked the wiki, and saw that it was 1984 (I was 10) when the rules changed - prior to that, there were 8 national broadcasts, and 5 designated regional broadcasts. This was put in place back in the 50s. The first year of the change, the number of games televised went from 89 to 200. Ohio State could expect to be on television 6-8 games a year in the late 80s.

Cable? Being Delaware County I'm surprised you had radio!

LOL

Well, here we are again. Last game before The Game. The Bucks stroll in to The Shoe one last time, undefeated. Couldn’t ask for a better season to this point. I gotta be honest, I didn’t see it happening this season. I don’t know why, but if you had told me they would be 10-0 right now before the season kicked off, I don’t know that I would have agreed. I was prepared for a loss or two this season. Can’t really put my finger on why…

Drink it in, BP. It’s a glorious thing. A thing not to be taken lightly. None of this is a given, yet here we sit with every goal on the table, once again.

It’s a glorious day to be a Buckeye and a horrible day to be a Gopher. How many seasons have we spent gazing at this same 10-0 scenario? It doesn’t come easily.

Remember that and be thankful.

Go Bucks. Here’s to 11-0.

O-H!!
