Minny at tOSU, Sat. 11/18, 4pm, BTN

My son's first Buckeye game this week! Plus I get to go with Dad & my nephew, too. Fuck I am getting old, and emotional. I remember sitting in Ohio Stadium - vividly - with my grandfather. I can close my eyes and see the ramp entrance and the hear the stadium clapping in rhythm as their white shoes pump up & down, the old score board (which a few years later would flash ED DIE or how many pancakes had been served so far) and my favorite memory, the warmups: our punters would boom the ball, it would spiral up into the air, clear the stadium seats and be floating against the blue sky spinning before turning nose down and coming back to a beautiful grass field (with grey lettering in the end zone). Grandpa would lean and tell me that's the largest all brass band in the world. Getting the plastic cups with the schedule on it, and then spending hours at home trying to draw the pictures of the players on those cups. Memorizing what number is what player.

My son is 5, which based on the players I was drawing on the cups I am thinking I was 6 at the time. I don't know if this will be one of his first actual memories when is older - or if he is still too young - but I hope it imprints on him like it did me and he can remember his grandpa the same way I can remember mine.

Life is short.

Go bucks.

Fuck Michigan.

Me in 2000: Who the fuck is Jim Tressel? Just hire Glen Mason, already!!!
Me in 2011: Don't hire Urban Meyer! Stick with Luke Fickell!
Me in 2018: Who the fuck is Ryan Day? Don't settle for a coordinator. Hire some big-name coach!!
Me in 2023: Yeah, I don't know shit about any of this.
At least you're big enough to admit that you were wrong. Can't say that about most people. I was super-excited about Tressel because he had OSU roots and had won 4 championships with Youngstown State. I would have been OK with Mason as he had success at tough-to-coach places like Kent St and Kansas. With the resources, name, etc of OSU I was sure he would win.

But I was really excited about Tress

I'm wrong a lot. It's usually about players and how good they'll be in the NFL. "<NAME> will be a bust in the NFL." He then goes to win rookie of the year. "<ANOTHER NAME> will be really good." He sucks.

But yeah - I was not on Team Tressel immediately. I mean, I fully supported him before the first game, but I thought it was the wrong hire. Mason was my first choice. My second choice was whoever the DC was at the time - name is escaping me at the moment. I think he had a son on the team. I don't even know if he was an option.

I will say, though, that when many of you goobers were bitching about Stroud after losing to Oregon, I was fully in support of him. I know that not many would admit now to saying he should be benched. But there were a lot of you. (No, I don't remember who.) Anyway, that's probably more of being a blind squirrel and stuff.

I'm going to the game. First one in 3 years. GO BUCKS!
One thing if it's been 3 years and you want a quick beverage on some of the breaks - get the app for the concessions once you get in the stadium. Some folks complain about it but really it saves you a ton of time doing it and you won't miss any of the game. Other than that, go enjoy...unfortunately this is my first year in quite some time I won't make it to a game.

As to the game itself, I would be pretty surprised if it was within 20 points, they are way down from the last couple of years. Only way I could see it being close is if we are looking ahead, but I don't see that happening. Their QB play is bad and their offense in general goes against the strengths of our defense. Their defense is below average and should be outmatched. Throw in that we are at home and I see this being about like the Sparty game. Early prediction is 35-7 Ohio State.

Will travel to C'bus to spend Turkey Day with our daughter. She suggested that we come early and go see Minny at the Shoe. Done and done. Have tickets in C deck (my Dad's favorite place). Are there any 'open' tailgates? Also, have never parked anywhere else but in Chemical Abstracts parking lot (Dad was Director for decades), so, any insights on walkable parking? Thanks in advance. Cannot wait to see Script Ohio once more.
Now that I don't have the benefit of campus parking, I have found Lane or anywhere near the stadium almost impossible for parking unless you pay out the nose or know someone. Same goes for trying to find street parking on either North or South Campus unless you get there super early. Over off Ackerman and near Fred Taylor there is usually good parking for a decent price. Little bit of a walk, but who cares on game day and you will pass plenty of tailgates (private but sometimes you get an invite up). Plenty of other spots but that has been my jam the last few games if I didn't have a hotel within walking distance.

On tailgates, I know Hiney Gate is long gone but in that same spot they have drinks and events. I haven't gone and only passed by, but to me it doesn't look much different than Hiney Gate. And if it isn't that great, Varsity Club is just right up the street. Enjoy the game!
