Minnesota Golden Gophers (official thread)

Returning QBs with the most TD passes in 2019

T-8. TANNER MORGAN | MINNESOTA | 30 TDS

Minnesota burst onto the scene under P.J. Fleck in 2020 with an 11-2 season, and Morgan was a huge reason why. Not only does Morgan have a year of experience under his belt — and a pretty great year of experience at that — but he also gets one of his favorite targets back. Rashod Bateman, who caught 60 passes for 1,219 yards last fall, is also back. That should help Morgan have a monster junior season.

Just sayin': Look put for Minnesota in the BIG West especially if they can replace their other receiver (i.e. Tyler Johnson). scUM gets them at TCF Bank Stadium this year.....

Previewing Minnesota’s Offense for 2020
The Gophers lose the program’s all-time all-purpose yardage leader in running back Rodney Smith and a record-setting receiver in Tyler Johnson, but they have plenty of playmakers to fill the gaps. Among Minnesota’s seven returning offensive starters are second-team all-conference quarterback Tanner Morgan, and 2018 leading rusher Mohamed Ibrahim. Not a bad place to start.

Overall takeaways: P.J. Fleck's Gophers are considered the biggest challenger to Wisconsin in the Big Ten West. They're going to be losing the school's all-time all-purpose yardage leader in Rodney Smith, but star wide receiver Rashod Bateman has re-enrolled and hopes to play in 2020. The best news schedule-wise for Minnesota is that Ohio State is nowhere to be seen on it.

Just sayin': A mediocre scUM team is going to have all they can handle in their opening game, (i.e. at Minnesota). Minnesota should have a very good passing game as (apparently) WR Rashod Bateman opted back in.

Cincinnati faces SMU in 2020's best Group of 5 battle, and the Big Ten is back in college football's Week 8

Don't sleep on Minnesota

In case you haven't heard all week, Big Ten football is back this weekend. There's -- appropriately -- a lot of talk about Ohio State and Justin Fields. But one team that isn't being discussed enough, particularly in a wide-open Big Ten West, is Minnesota, which opens against Michigan. Quarterback Tanner Morgan is coming off a solid sophomore campaign in which he threw for 3,253 yards, 30 touchdowns and seven picks. Lucky for him, wideout and future first-round NFL draft pick Rashod Bateman opted back in and has been cleared to play this season. Going up against Michigan will be a nice early test and a barometer for what we might expect from the Gophers this season.

I'd actually like to see both teams lose; however, that isn't very likely. So Go Gophers!!!
