... and, if the timing is correct, demonstrating that he has no class and a small member. If true, Tom is finally getting rid of the fungus growing all over our offense (Beck). Was afraid he'd go find another sycophant and keep Beck in some capacity. Maybe he will, but it'll be as an analyst or recruiting coordinator.
He's surprised everyone on the strength of the coordinator hires (again, if the Yurcich rumors end up being true). Let's see if this strategy of Ohio State-ing the UT coaching staff works. If it doesn't, it's all on Tom because all the pieces are there. No excuses in 2020.
Consistent winning coaches either demonstrate genius and leadership or exceptional leadership. I didn't see much of either at Ohio State or since. An exceptional leader would not have made several short-sighted, self-centered choices that we have seen from Herman. So, I deleted my earlier post because I thought it a bit coarse, but I will now rephrase it, if I might, as a question.
Which is more likely?
Tom Herman turns Texas into a perennial B12 champ and CFP contender, or
Tom Herman becomes that guy with a newspaper in his lap in the dark corner of a tittie bar, who bores everyone with the stories of his heyday?
If he has a 2 year contract and leaves after 1, I would assume there is a buyout?Yurcich addresses Texas rumors, shares why Fields is special
This past Monday, Ohio State passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich found himself as the subject of rumors he was in the running to become the new offensive coordinator for coach Tom Herman at Texas.
The timing was not optimum as Yurcich was helping Ohio State begin final preparations for Saturday’s Fiesta Bowl national semifinal game against Clemson.
Yurcich, 44, joined the rest of the Ohio State staff and the entire team at this morning’s Fiesta Bowl media day. He did the best he could to quell those rumors and put the focus back on Ohio State.
“I know it’s rumor time this time of year, but our focus right now is beating Clemson,” Yurcich said.
A reporter was asked if Yurcich could say whether he has no interest in a job at Texas.
“I’m going to say my focus right now is 100 percent on Clemson,” he said.
Another reporter noted that Yurcich was also mentioned for a spot on new Washington coach David Lake’s staff.
“Guys, those are all rumors,” he said. “I would hate for anything to be other than beating Clemson this week and information about this game and this team.”
Yurcich was then asked if it could become an issue if Ohio State defeats Clemson and then has to wait until Jan. 13 to play LSU or Oklahoma in the national title game.
“I have no idea,” Yurcich said.
First-year head coach Ryan Day hired Yurcich, who served previously as the offensive coordinator for Mike Gundy at Oklahoma State from 2013-18. Yurcich was hired to essentially replace Day, who was elevated to the head coaching position last December.
Yurcich received a two-year contract worth $900,000 per year. He has already realized bonuses worth more than $300,000 as the Buckeyes won the Big Ten East, the Big Ten championship game and advanced to the College Football Playoff. He stands to make another $200,000 if the Buckeyes defeat Clemson and move on to the national championship game.
Some of the emphasis on this match-up between Ohio State and Clemson has centered on a comparison between Yurcich’s prized pupil, OSU quarterback Justin Fields, and his Clemson counterpart, Trevor Lawrence.
“I don’t like to toot our own horn, but I think (Fields) is accurate,” Yurcich said. “They are both NFL-caliber players. It’s going to be a showdown. It’s going to be fun.
“With quarterback play, we get into this thing where it’s Trevor against Justin and that is just so inaccurate. There is a correlation between how well your offensive line, running backs and receivers play and the quarterback. It’s a team game. If everybody does their job, we’ll look good.”

Actually he evaded the question.....
I guess I'm not surprised by this move. Yurich wants to call the shots, and Tom is desperate to hand the reigns to someone who has engineered high octane offenses in the Big 12 before. I don't think it'd spiteful as much as Tom getting a coach that was successful in the Big 12.I’m surprised by this. Yurcich has a young family he just moved to Ohio and he has close family in Ohio. I understand that he could want an expanded role in an offense but he had to know, coming in, with Day and Wilson here, that it was going to be a team effort.
Quite frankly, Herman hiring Yurcich just comes across as spiteful. The Minnesota offensive coordinator would have been, I think, a better hire but Tom can’t help but try to stick it to Ohio State if he can.
Texas SHOULD be good next year with their defense having more veteran leadership and Ehlinger returning with Bijan coming in (who I think has the ability to be a 1000-yard back as a freshman). But if they struggle again next year, I’ll be happy to see Tom unemployed and sad to see Yurcich also unemployed because he’s a likeable guy.
He's like Urban Meyer without the winningNot going to argue with that. Herman's schtick gets old really quickly, especially when he's not winning. Nearly got him fired this year. He's just not a very likable person. If he starts winning, then it'll be tolerated.
I'm not 100% sold on whether Herman is the leak here, but he's definitely the leading candidate. It was in his best interest to keep this quiet until after the Buckeyes' season is over. It has to be incredibly awkward for Yurcich right now, which adds some risk here. If Yurcich is still on the fence about the move, then Herman may have just shot himself in his small member. Herman needs a big OC hire really badly right now.

I can see Yurich as Tom's fall guy. And honestly, rumors were that he wasn't the easiest guy to get along with(rumors, I know). It would suck to see him go after 1 season, but he can be easily replaced, IMO. He wasn't solely calling plays, he basically coached the QBs alongside Day. Heck, we could go get newly unemployed Dan Enos from Miami to just focus on the QBs like he did at Bama. With the talent they had, along with the talent we have, it wouldn't be much of a stretch. Just throwing a name out, not looking at a replacement
