Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Good call...

The Raiders are preparing to make a run at Michael Vick, according to NFL sources. The Raiders package would include receivers Randy Moss and Jerry Porter plus the No.1 overall pick in the 2007 draft for Vick and the Falcons first round pick (10th overall).

Damn. If that offer is actually put on the table, and the Falcons don't jump on that, I don't think I could ever respect the organization again.

Not only do you get two quality receivers, but you get the #1 pick, and get rid of a QB who hasn't delivered on the potential you've been waiting for. People are already saying that Schaub could be traded for a first round pick, so could either make him the starter, or trade him and draft a high profile QB in the draft.

I say that that the Falcons make the trade (if it is offered), immedietly trade Moss for really any decent defensive player (to get rid of that headache), make Schaub the starter, and draft Calvin Johnson. So many possibilities.

That sounds like a plan!

Having heard nothing more about this rumor if anything is going to happen I would expect it in the next week or two. Now they just need to focus on getting some identity for that offense. The Defense last year didn't look at all bad, if it hadn't been for a really weird call in the Chargers game they would have won, in fact, they almost beat the Chargers, Broncos and the Chiefs, their 3 Division rivals.

As for Vick, if he comes to Oakland, he's really going to need to control his temper. I don't live anywhere near Oakland, however, I do live near San Diego and having gone to the Oak/SD game a few times I can tell you there's a few of those fans who just go looking to get a piece of someone.

Example, a few years ago I went to that game, Tomlinson busted free for a nice run, I stood up yelling "YEAH!" and for my efforts the 4 guys dressed in silver and black decided to empty thier beers onto my head. This soon broke out into a brawl as the guy next to me didn't think that was cool and swung.

Granted most of their fans aren't like this, but a lot are, and if Vick comes to Oak he might want to leave the birds at home :)

Oh and on a last note, no idea if people have seen this or not, it's a commercial that airs here during Raider week.

I agree with all of your post except for the drafting of Johnson. Why use the #1 overall to take a WR when you already have White, Jenkins, Lelie, and now Porter?

Don't forget Finneran who was hurt all year...Lelie will probably be gone after the season tho as I think he is a FA if I am not mistaken...

DL/OT/S in the draft...No ?'s asked unless for some unknown reason AP falls to the #10 pick...

Because he is that good. If they can trade down a little bit and not blow the #1 on him, then more power to them. But if they find themselves in a position to get a guy like him, I think that he's the best player in the draft, and should be drafted.

Can a team crippled by a huge cap hit (Vick) afford to draft a #1 pick?
I don't know the salary cap is so goofy. I think there is a seperate pool of money for draft picks, yet it somehow counts against the cap. Sorry I'm no capologist. I still can't imagine Atl. would take that cap hit.

Falcons adamant Vick won't be traded

By STEVE WYCHE
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/24/07 Michael Vick isn't going anywhere.
In light of the recent controversy surrounding their three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, the Falcons insist they have no plans to trade or release him before the 2007 season, according to a spokeswoman for team owner Arthur Blank. In fact, Vick will be back as the team's starter, thwarting speculation about his status or stature with the franchise.
In addition to the desire to keep Vick, the salary-cap ramifications of trading or cutting him would make a move prohibitive.
"There are no plans to trade him or cut him," Kim Shreckengost, executive vice president of operations for Arthur M. Blank Group, said. "Michael is our quarterback and the leader of our team. We have a new head coach [Bobby Petrino] who is anxious to start working with him. Everyone has high expectations of him going into next season.

So, taking your scarlet and gray glasses off, how would you feel about the falcons drafting Pitcock, after possibly trading down (or wherever they feel necessary to be in order to get him with a reasonable draft pick)?

For the right value of trading down I would be all for it...

They have Rod Coleman who was an all pro 2 years ago and is always up there in sacks from the DT spot and then Grady Jackson manning the other spot. The problem is that Coleman has been off and on injured and Jackson is a run stuffer and that is it...

I would love to get Pittcock with about the 20th pick, b/c DT is one position that it is hard to find quality guys later in the draft...You can find a S and usually OL, but not really DT.

If they were able to keep the 10th pick and trade Schaub for a #1 I think the ideal situation would be to draft one of Nelson/Landry/OT PSU/Thomas/AP then with the other pick draft a DT like Pittcock or a DE like Moses or the guys from Arkansas...

Overall a pretty deep draft class for the Falcons needs...

I also wouldnt mind a guy like Patterson late in the draft to add to depth...
