Mike Vick (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Ok so you are telling me if you had to pick who to start you would have a tough time deciding who to start. Now you are putting words in my mouth. I am saying sometimes it goes both ways.

What happens if when Grossman got picked off the guy stays down. Then on the drive when Jenkins dropped the ball they go down and score, b/c tehy were moving the ball, Vick was in the pocket and throwing balls. I believe he had about 4 straight on that drive. Then the score is 10-9 in favor of the Falcons.

Too many ifs and buts for Vick tonight. He displayed a Spergeon Wynn like performance tonight.

Vick didn't look these receivers way. He looked at Alge on the right side then looked to his left and evades the pass rushers. I rarely see Vick make a pre snap audible. It always seems like that's the play no matter what. A 10 yard or a 30 yard fade to Finneran is called, Vick will throw it to him no matter what. This is what Manning thrives at. If he sees a blitz coming before the snap and they end up coming he will hit that hot receiver or receivers in stride from where the blitz was coming.

Did you see times when Vick didnt even have time to let the number one reciever even run his route.

holy crap how many excuses can possibly be packed into one post.

It's too bad Vick had to actually play outside, in a real atmosphere of a football game. In case you guys didn't realize, the playoffs are december/january, which means it is going to be cold. And yes, it means Vick will have to play outside sometimes and not be able to crank up the heat in his dome and not worry about weather.

Yes, in an extremely weak conference. This is also the same team (and quarterback) that when was made to play outside in a big playoff game, completely buckled and got destroyed. Sure, he looked great playing in a dome againsts the amazing defense of St. Louis, but as soon as he got outside against a good team, he lost. To say that "the defense was really good so thats why he looked bad, and it was really cold" are not excuses, because thats what you get in the playoffs. You actually have to play good teams (yes, im being serious) and have to play in the cold, outside.

Maybe Vick could go play in an Arena football league, so that way he'll never have to be worried about being slightly discomforted (even though every other single player on the field has that same disadvantage going against them), and he'll get to play infererior defenses and make spectacular plays and be all over sportscenter. Sure, Vick will get to explode on weak teams indoors, but that is not what the NFL is all about, or what being a QB is all about. He has absolutely no ball control (and even against good defenses ball control will atleast keep you in the game), and as soon as he plays a good defense he starts to struggle. And i dont want to hear about how his "ribs are hurting". Tell Tom Brady that when he had a 104 degree fever and was on IV the night before the AFC championship, but still went out and had a fantastic game. Any good QB has had to play through pain and lead his team to victory. The biggest problem with Vick (and his designated excuse-makers) is that everyone wants him to be in ideal conditions all the time. As soon as weather, defenses, injuries, and other teammates breaking down come into play, its all of a sudden acceptable for him to suck.

hmmm you have some very good points but in the end you are basically saying that every QB in the NFL should be playing arena league football? i would honestly love to know what QB in the NFL could have won the game for the falcons tonight. when you get back to me with that one. manning wouldnt have his last resort dallas clark for him and his beautiful time he usually has, brady would be shitting his pants with a defense up on him like that and be throwing stray balls just like he did in previous games when he had people all over him. so what QB would have won the game for them tonight? surely there has to be a QB in professional football that could have won this game over an arena league overrated pos worthless player like vick with no running game, an Oline getting destroyed, and against the best defense in the league. i mean come on anybody can get by that.

thats because in most instances a blitz is ideal for vick because he can outrun the LB's to the outside or scramble out and throw the ball. the bears did a great job on destroying the atlanta Oline and keeping contain on vick in the pocket.

Don't really care what about the bullshit you wrote all I will say is were saying Peyton sucked last year after he went to NE and layed an egg in the playoffs against a good defense and cold temperatures.

One game doesn't make a qb.

Because you have nothing to back it up with. If you switch Brady with Manning then Brady would have laid an egg against New England. Brady and Manning are by far the two best QB's in the league. They shouldn't even be brought up in a discussion with Vick.

What NFL QBs would have won the game tonight for the falcons?

Since so many of you have such conclusive opinions on his ranking in the NFL, you should easily be able to answer this question.

i dont think that vick is "worthless". And yes, tonight Chicago's defense was great. But this is not the first time Vick has done this kind of thing. As far as a QB that could have had a chance to win that game, i would take Tom Brady. Tom Brady has been through all of that (the steelers had a damn good defense last year in the playoffs), and he has the leadership, talent, and intelligence to get through that. And its not as much as Vick (or any QB) having to shine against a good defense, its just don't make it worse. Don't turn the ball over, and put together smart drives with smart passes. That one pass (first INT) that he kind of fluffed up in the air was pretty pathetic. I would have taken Brett Favre at QB for that game, and possibly Ben Roethlisberger (even as young as he is).

So if you put Peyton or Brady in this game tonite how much better do you think the Falcons do. Do you think they win. Keep in mind that Peyton isnt going to have his precious time to get rid of the ball and he isnt going to have Harrison, Wayne, Clark, Stoakley to get the ball to.

What me and Jeffcat are trying to get at is that it is a team game. Not one player wins a game and not one players loses a game.

Why dont you look at the first post of this thread? There is more evidence than one game that this guy is a bum and the most overrated player in the NFL. Mexico is more likely to have a reoccurance of herpes than to ever play in the super bowl.

Well I guess we will just have to wait and see. Is all I can say.

Why do I think Vick is good, b/c he is a defensive's worst nightmare. He has 499 yards rushing is that is while being hurt for a majority of the year.

Also he will mature, if you have not seen strides in his passing this year then you must not have been watching the same games I was. If he had more time to throw he would complete about 5% more of his passes.

He has 3 good recievers, two of which are very young, and a very good TE.

He also has a good running game.

The thing the Falcons are missing is a good o-line and another superstar on defense.

And you are right about that, it is definitely a team game. And if i had to rate Atlanta as a team right now, they would get a pretty poor rating from me. And also, its not that i think that Vick is the worst QB in the league, or is completely pathetic, i just think that he is by far the most overrated and overhyped player in the league. I also think that he is out of position, and a great athlete such as himself should be put in a position where he can use that athleticism to his fullest.

But about Manning, he definitely has some talented players around him, but you have to keep in mind that he probably elevates alot of their games to higher levels. Manning is a guy that makes everyone around him better, as is a guy like Tom Brady. I know for awhile, Donovan McNabb had a pretty atrocious group of WRs but still managed to make them look pretty decent, and made them the best that they could be.

:slappy:
You actually think Brady or Manning woudnt have done better? they are hall of fame QBs. Vick is struggling to be a mediocre one this year.
And, yes, sometimes 1 player can lose a game. And Vick lost this one...big time.

And to those who say it was just one game. Here are some stats:

How many times has Vick played all 16 games? NEVER
How many times has Vick thrown for over 3000 yds? NEVER
How many times has Vick thrown for 20 TDS? NEVER
How many times has Vick thrown for 60%? NEVER

Well the thing with that is, because of him running so much, him being banged up a little bit and missing a few games is what comes along with it. It is virtually impossible for him to be 100% healthy for every game and be able to put up peak numbers week in and week out. If he wants to run alot, he will get hurt. That is why RBs are usually out of the league faster than any other position, just because of all the abuse they take, even if they are prepared to the fullest extent for it.
