he pretty much is.

i mean i don’t care how you slice it, Mississippi State is bottom half of this division.
might sneak up once a decade and finish higher, but that’ll be rare.

Jackie Sherrill is the last guy to have any real success for multiple years.
And that was in a decade that saw Bama and Auburn both under NCAA sanctions and LSU floundering through the absolute worst stretch in school history.

Once those 3 got got their shit back together, the natural order of things returned.
the two Mississippi Schools and Arky battle for “top of the bottom half”.

i have no clue how this will end.
But damn i’m really anxious to find out.

Mississippi State is probably one of the hardest gig he could have chosen.

at absolute best, you’re the 5th best destination in the division. But realistically you’re either 6th or 7th.

there is some talent in state, but not nearly the quantity needed to feed two power 5 and upper level Group of 5 school. Oh and the very top tier of those athletes WILL be poached by the big boys in neighboring states.
but your fanbase will still pretty much demand that you compete with the schools at the top.

Plus now, you’re no longer hidden in the Pacific Midwest (or even Lubbock).
Your now on the side of the Mississippi River where football is king and EVERYBODY is watching.

So we’re about to find out just what he’s capable of when his talent level is significantly lower than close to half his schedule.

Its honestly no different than Texas Tech. Littlest of brothers in state, though there's less talent in MS than TX, but it's not like Tech gets the top tier kids anyway like at MSU.
Leach can find some diamonds in the rough, and he can keep games close with the air raid offense, and like always his defense will be his Achilles heel.
