Mike Leach (HC Mississippi State, a National Treasure, R.I.P.)

I would lift and run for 80k. It might not be cash in hand but the bennies are there. If you pick a non-kinesiology degree you may be able to continue or surpass that 80k a year.

Similar to Soldiers that want to get out with zero plan. Sure, you only make 22k a year. But with benefits that goes up. But I can go home to San Diego and make 35k starting out. They don't like when I show them how much rent, food, etc. costs in the real world.

The one thing that’s never accounted for by critics is the intrinsic value of the coaching itself. How much would you pay George Whitfield, or Quincy Avery, or Tom House to coach your kid for a summer? $200 or $300 an hour?

Ok. Now how much would you pay Urban Meyer or Ryan Day to coach your kids for four or five years as a private instructor? What’s the value of Brian Hartline training your kid for three or four years? What is the *actual* value of studying under Larry Johnson for three or four years?

You’d crawl across broken glass and hot coals for that kind of internship in any other profession.

If you’re a 5 star DE prospect and Larry Johnson is offering you mentorship gratis, that’s not $80k a year, that’s now $500k a year worth of value. Free. If LJ can’t get you to the NFL, you never had a chance of going to the NFL.

Loveland has a great point.
But Leach thinking a degree from WSU is actually worth $80k/yr is... shockingly out of touch with reality. And belies somebody who hasn't been in a typical job market for decades.
He's his own ivory tower sometimes.

not the degree itself.

the expense of tuition, room and board, meals, travel etc.
adds up to an average of around $80k

Most Uni's include that in CoA.
Let's look at WSU's... estimated at $23,992/yr for residents, and $38,500/yr for nonresidents.

What you're saying is that $40k of that is really business expenses for business trips.
Not even the IRS is gonna tax a working stiff for their employer's travel expenses. That's the cost of doing business for employer, not a benefit for the employee.

... and cuz I know somebody will go there, it's Mike Leech who decided to act like players are employees getting paid $80k/yr based on "something I read".
