Mike Dontonio (get off my lawn!!!)

The other possibility, due to the timing of the games, is that he's getting ready to 'spin' a probable tOSU victory over TSUN, which his players will learn about minutes before their kickoff in Happy Valley.

By stating ahead of time that it's a good thing for tOSU to win, after that happens, he can say to his team just before kickoff "All right, TSUN lost, now we can go out there and win a share of the Big Ten title and show everybody that we're now the top football program in our state!"

That way they won't be thinking "Damn, tOSU won, so we don't have a shot at the Rose Bowl" just before they take the field.
You are making way too much sense on the other hand
If I were a Michigan State fan, I would be extremely [censored]ed. Probably not the smartest comment that Coach Dantonio has ever made.

Really? It makes too much sense? If MSU wins, then they get at least a share of the Big Ten. The only way they can win it outright and go to the Rose Bowl is for us to lose. It was a senseless statement, and he either should have used the old, "I have my own game to worry about," or said he was rooting for the scenario that was best for his team.

I'm sorry...

what affect does Dantonio "cheering" for the Buckeyes have on The Game or his game?

Must have missed that.

I realize the affect that OSU winning has on his game, but him cheering means nothing.

Thanks for the support, though, I'm sure it well help us tremendously on Saturday!

If those Sparty fans don't like what Dantonio said, they need to 'get a life'.

Or get a clue. When was the last time MSU was playing for a Big Ten championship? 1990. Was there a 4 way tie for that championship? They should be happy to have Dantonio as a coach and not say anything that would make him want to leave.

Dantonio started as a spartan DC the last time they were a thorn in UM's side.
He was promoted to OSU, where he won a NC at a program who hates UM even more.
He moved on to Cincinnati who keeps a healthy relationship with OSU and has a program supported and stocked with Ohio fans/talent.
He has now taken over MSU, renewed the hatred and rivalry with UM, and built momentum in state and in-conference against Michigan.

MSU is at or near the top with many instate programs. A colossal upset by RR in Cbus would throw a huge wrench in what he's building.

It's really not surprising to hear him go with his roots (all 4 coaching gigs) in spite of his hated rival. Besides...

What are the chances Michigan actually beats OSU, let alone having that coincide with a 15 point upset in Happy Valley, where PSU has played great football?

The chances of BOTH happening are incredibly slim.

That actually does make sense. I assumed that BB73 was joking in his post. Telling a tale of an elaborate head game that Dantonio was playing with his players.

The game is going to happen whether he roots for Ohio State or Michigan. Who he roots for is pretty irrelevant IMO.
It's pretty irrelevant who we root for too.

jwinslows version of things would be enough for me to step back off of the ledge if I were a Michigan State fan. I've already read what many of them feel about the situation, and they don't seem to care. I can write that off on John L. Smith though. That and they seem to think that if Oregon State loses, then the BCS will choose them over Penn State for an at-large. I think that that delusion is kind of cute and sad, all at the same time.
