Mid-Majors and Their Crazy Antics

I love these crazy bastards. They're like the Agent Van Alden of Ohio college message boards. They're boring for awhile. You just know though that the crazy is bubbling to the surface, and when it hits, hilarity will ensue.

I should post there the story of my son. He was a high school senior last year and applied to OSU and also Ohio U. OSU accepted him very quickly and offered him a schollie for $3500/year and the opportunity for more schollie money via the Honors Program. He was pretty excited since OSU was his dream school.

Then he says to me, and this is the exact quote, "The only way OU would have a chance is if they offer me a full-ride scholarship."

Two days later, he gets a letter from OU....they were offering him a full-ride schollie. That offer gave him a minute or two of euphoria and minor thought. Very minor thought as he is currently in his first semester at OSU.

Yes he turned down a full-ride to OU to go to OSU. The main reason is probably growing up in my house (I have 2 degrees from OSU and his mom has her degree from OSU) you are surrounded by OSU stuff from birth. The other main reason for him was academics. For his area, OU can't compete with OSU. He knew it, he researched it, and as he put it, "I believe that the OSU diploma looks better than an OU diploma."

And he would read the first post in that thread, specifically the first sentence,

I've been fighting the good fight for many decades in the heart of the evil empire but I'm starting to feel like Sisyphus must have felt long ago when pushing that rock up a mountain.

and he would wonder why the author of the post didn't simply put a period after Sisyphus, as most OSU grads and current students wouldn't need the rest of that poorly constructed sentence .

Noted Ohio State badmouther and poster boy for everything wrong with Ohio higher education Louis Proenza is retiring after practically bankrupting the place. I've long predicted that the state may need to step in and undo the financial mess that he's created, and I wonder if this is the proverbial rat abandoning ship.

Tressel to replace him as president (or interim)?

?He?s probably going to be a candidate, but that?s about all we can say at this point,? university trustee chairman Richard Pogue said in an interview with the Beacon Journal on Monday. ? We?re not in any rush.?

It's funny cause people that didn't attend tOSU wearing Buckeye [Mark May] is pathetic. Guess if you're wearing gear of a college you didn't attend just to be a huge bitch, it's cool.

Well shit! Go Quakers!!!

Hey Louis, your godforsaken university has a $40M budget shortfall, has had its debt rating downgraded, has declining enrollment and is losing state funds under the new performance based funding formula--not to mention the lowest graduation rate of any Ohio public university. Essentially, it is heading for a financial cliff!

Yet you have both the money and time to be doing crap like this. Go fuck yourself you jealous, spiteful prick.

Beavis Fredo has really worked itself into a frothing mess over the O-H-I-O flags. They're closing in on three pages, digging up various t-shirts on the web and threatening to call in the lawyers.

Beavis Fredo really amuses me when they try and take matters into their own hands. Don't they know that their traditional role is to carry water for Fredo of Ohio and take their orders from Oxford.

i love reading about these small schools demanding more respect. it's freaking hilarious at times.

here in Louisiana, USL is the freaking poster child for this type of behavior.

a few years ago, they changed their name to Louisiana-Lafayette (same year Northeastern became Louisiana-Monroe)
Monroe accepts their place in the world, and calls themselves ULM

USL on the other hand refuses to be called ULL.
they DEMAND to be called "Louisiana", and think this puts the, on par with schools like Texas, Bama, Michigan, etc.

They also swear up and down the only reason LSU is any good, is because they hog all of the state tax dollars to fund the football team.
A simple google search would show that not only does LSU athletics not accept a single cent of tax or tuition dollars, it actually GIVES $7mil a year back to the academic side of the school.
