Michigan Coaching Speculation

Moeller was as unpopular with fans as Debord, and was probably unlikely to survive the coaching transition. The LB coaching OL experiment has not been a pretty one.

Could hurt them with Elliot Mealer.

I'm not sure how accurate it is, but the Rivals thing that hooks up recruits to coaches lists Mealer under DeBord, rather than under Moeller.

I wouldn't read anything into the time if I were you......if one recalls, they said the same thing about OSU 'taking too long' or 'losing out of people' (I seem to remember Stoops, Belotti, ? turning OSU down). And when the dust settled, we got Jim Tressel. A IAA coach for sixteen years....and Geiger took the heat for it (bless his pea-picking heart!).

Michigan is a top tier job, with expectations just a tad south of OSU fan(atics) expectations, so it stands to reason. Why would a well established coach leave their cozy nest to take over a program that appears to be on the decline (after this crop of seniors graduates). Also, Michigan tends to promote from within, and is now looking for fresh blood (albeit with Michigan experiences). That is truly a switch in their mindset, so undoubtedly they go about it in a half-assed way........Put Miles up there (if they do, he (AND Michigan) will have less than zero creditability for a looooong time. How would a recruit believe Miles telling him how wonderful things are there, when he swore up and down he was staying at LSU, and then bolted?

Never fear, they'll find a decent replacement (never thought Moeller OR Carr were inspired choices), but probably won't take a flier on a non-Meatchicken man (like our experiment with Coop). Bring 'em on, we'll continue to beat 'em-at the 'Shoe or the Big House - don't matter!

How about this theory. UM names English interim coach for the bowl game and next season. After which they go after Miles again.

I'd cherish every minute of the English regime however short it may be.

English or DeBord would be like the jam of the month club...the gift that keeps on giving the whole year.

Seems he's the only one on the staff with that problem.

I think I've found the root of Michigan's struggles this year. Your strength and conditioning coach looks like he's neither strong nor conditioned.

I believe both had a hand in his recruitment... he named dropped both in a 'carr retirement' followup on scout.

College football notebook: Grobe can't escape Michigan rumors

Friday, December 14, 2007 3:00 AM

FROM WIRE REPORTS

Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe wants to keep the focus on his team's preparations for its Meineke Bowl appearance Dec. 29 in Charlotte, N.C., but it hasn't been easy. Grobe, a former coach at Ohio University, continues to be mentioned as a candidate to succeed Lloyd Carr, who is retiring at Michigan.
Last week, Grobe was approached by Arkansas officials about the coaching job that eventually went to Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino.
Asked during a visit to Charlotte yesterday whether he had been contacted by anyone associated with Michigan, Grobe said, "It's gone on with Nebraska, it's gone on with Arkansas. Now, it's going on with Michigan. I've just got to get out of all that stuff. There's no comment I can make that helps the situation.
