Michigan Coaching Speculation

As they keep saying on Rivals Radio, "Mama's calling." Les Miles is going back home.
If he wasn't going to leave LSU, he'd have said so by now.
Would anyone have believed him if he had said he wasn't going anywhere? This is the SEC we're talking about. Nick Saban was SO NOT A CANDIDATE at Alabama, denied it three times before the cock crowed and ended up in Tuscaloosa anyway.

I wonder if many Yoovem fans have actually thought this through.
Does it much matter? Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a better candidate out there. Not that Miles is chopped liver, but the pickin's look pretty slim this year. Unless there's that guy, somewhere, lurking in the shadows at some D-IAA school, or some bright coordinator somewhere waiting patiently for a chance, Miles is really the only one worth getting excited about. Kirk Ferentz? Mike DeBord? Yech.

LSU coach Les Miles was repeatedly asked about Michigan at an SEC news conference.

Les Miles tried once, twice, three times to deflect talk about Michigan. The more he dodged, the more he was quizzed.

The LSU coach was asked six times in all about a possible move, then time ran out on his interview session setting up the Southeastern Conference championship game.
"There will be no distractions," Miles said yesterday.
Before leaving the podium, Miles took care of a final piece of business: He reached into his pocket, pulled out his cell phone and checked for text messages.

Many may not agree, but I think the one to fear most is English. He is a dynamic recruiter, young & energetic. His first job would be to find a DC better than himself (he has had a pretty miserable stretch), but moving him out of the DC would be only an improvement. I think he would be a better HC than DC. Kelly would be the other one, but he seems to have too much bagage. Here's hoping for Les.

DFP:

Carr's endorsement is the missing piece in Miles' candidacy

The support for Les Miles following his dream and returning home to Michigan isn't unanimous.

He fits the principal criteria: maintaining the Bo Schembechler link, expressing a true appreciation for what coaching Michigan means and understanding that national championships represent the holy grail of college football in the 21st Century.

But there remain concerns within a faction of the Blue community, denying Miles' candidacy the full embrace.

Lloyd Carr could bring an end to such ambivalence with one sentence: "Les Miles has my full support."

...

And the longer Carr goes without officially endorsing Miles, the more obvious it becomes that he has issues with the LSU coach becoming his successor.

I could give two craps about Miles coming to Ann Arbor, we'll own him as well.

If indeed Jon Tenuta jumps on board as well....... thats a completely different animal. Tenuta will bring that defense back up to standard pretty quickly I'd imagine and his first hand knowledge of coaching in the rivalry will turn this game back into a barn-burner year in and year out.

If that report of Jon Tenuta accompanying Miles to Ann Arbor is on the money then that that is likely perceived as an upgrade for TSUN on Defense.

Given his prior specialty area while in Columbus one area that will be worth following is the Defensive Back play.

Oh, and obviously this would put English to the curb.

Having Miles as the head coach doesn't bother me at all.

But bringing in Jon Tenuta as DC would be a helluva good first move for him.

bingo. Miles coaches/recruits like john cooper but, can't win the big ones that count. Tenuta gets me but, great move by Miles. I hope Tenutas Ohio high school contacts vanished
