Michigan chatter - 2005

here is something that a lot of folks have overlooked. for all the hype manningham is getting this year, everyone must remember that he is lining up as a slot man 90% of the time. that means he is going up against a nickle back or safety.

i challenge anyone to find a better trio of covermen in the big ten that is better than youboty, everette and jenkins collectively. imo breston as a wideout is mediocre. this will likely allow osu to give safety help to whoever is on manningham, should that be necessary.

all that being said, final score 24-20, with the winning team being slightly more effective in the redzone.

The more I think about the game, the more I think OSU's Special Teams are the difference, and frankly I think it's a 2 TD difference. Bold, I know, especially on the road... But, there is no place to kick the ball if you're Michigan. Both Santonio and Teddy can pop it. OSU should win the battle of field position and in my view, the score will follow.

Actually, what I've heard is OSU beating Michigan all but assures an at large bid.
The biggest obstacle facing OSU is that two of the three at-large picks are held by the Fiesta, and the Fiesta has to look at whether the fan base will travel out there in such large numbers for the third time in four years for a game without national title implications. From the Fiesta Bowl's perspective (after first picking Notre Dame, of course) Alabama may be a more enticing pick since their fans haven't been to Tempe. From the sponsor's perspective, I don't know that Tostitos gains anything by saturating the Ohio market again either. Notre Dame/Alabama hits a much larger national audience than ND/PSU or ND/OSU, which would both pass as essentially regional games if they occured in the regular season.

OSU will probably be going to the Orange Bowl to face the ACC winner (either Miami, Va. Tech, or FSU). Orange Bowl officials were at the Northwestern game.

As I think about Fiesta bowl scenarios more and more, I'm not certain that OSU is a serious contender there this year.

I like the idea of OSU in the Orange, and I'd hope it's against VT (Mostly because OSU hasn't played them yet, and I'd like to see it. Although playing Miami again would be interesting, and I'd be amped to beat em)

Alabama was at the Fiesta in 92, weren't they? Hmmm.. maybe that was the Sugar... I forget.

Edit - I should say, I agree a ND v. OSU match in the Fiesta isnt likely.

Homeland Security will soon be confiscating Dryden's PC to search it for other ideas.

I would have quoted what he said, but placing those words under my post would add my name to their list, so yuo'll have to go back to page 1 if you don't remember what he said. :wink2:
