Michigan Chatter - 2004

Some of the comments about this offense are very interesting. Have you guys not been watching the same games I have?

All year long, we have seen a wide open offense with diverse playcalling in general and whole bunch of formations. Only thing I have seen is a tendency to force the run a little, probably mostly because we were so bad at it and needed to work on it so much.

This offense we saw today was put in last week. It was designed and built to take advantage of the playmakers who had worked their way onto the field. It was horrible in the first half last week, but in retrospect, I think that was just the adjustment period to a new offense. They were very good last week in the second half and incredible today.

The nice thing about the offense today was that they did not force the ball into Ginn's hands. They got it to him in the flow of the game. That to me felt like the primary difference between last week and this week in this offense. That and Troy Smith have flawless execution.

Henne realizes he's in a rivalry

Welcome to tOSU MR. Henne :slappy:

You know it's a big rival, but now I know what it's all about," said freshman quarterback Chad Henne, hammered all day. "You can't even hear yourself think in there. The records don't mean anything. It's all about emotion. You've got to fight through it, and we just didn't play our best game."

When could he tell this game was different than any other?

"Coming into the stadium on the bus, everybody's flipping you off," he said. "You kind of laugh it off, then you get in the stadium, and you see it all."

I think Scum thought we were just a mediocre team that wasn't going to give them a problem. Well tOSU Buckeyes are a force and will be a force. The team is growing into its potential and will evolve into a great team. :osu:

No scUM freshman QB has come into Ohio Stadium and won.

They just have no clue what they are in for.

The ESPN knuckleheads keep saying that if Henne stays all four years he will the best QB scUM has ever had.

Too bad he's going to have a losing record against his rival too.

Chad Henne will have some problems next year, methinks.

He puts too much air under his longballs and shorts em. He's had Edwards to make up the difference, but he's gone. To me, Jason Avant has never been anything but average - he had 1 big game.. against northwestern last year. Steve Breaston has the potential to be a gamebreaker, but aside from punt returns as a frosh, hasn't done shit.

Henne has some work to do on decision making as well. Some of that will come just cause he's bound to learn the game. In 2 years, he doesn't throw that pick to Ashton, he'll either throw the route earlier or throw it away. On the other hand, Chris Rix never really became the greatest decision maker, so....

All in all, Henne did better this year that I would have projected having watched him in some HS allstar games. I thought he needed a shit load of work, but stepped in and did well enough that I can say I was wrong with my analysis of him preseason. But, to say he'll be the greatest in Michigan history? That's either way premature or suggests that Michigan's QB history is bad, which it isn't (Although it hurts to have to say that)

I don't think so - we ran a lot of these plays ever since TS took over the starting spot.

The entire offense finally executed - no more of this "we're just one player away" talk.

JT offensive goals for each game is 200 yds rushing 250 passing and 40 points.

It's one thing to get that against Indiana - entirely another when you come so close against a top 10 team - and your main rival.

Props to JT for keeping his high standards and making changes when all seemed lost after the Iowa debacle.

Props to Glenville for beating powerhouse Ignatius...I don't think an innercity public school has ever gotten this far in the Division 1 playoffs in Ohio

I saw an interview on ONN with Ginn Sr, seems like a helluva guy, really instills something in his players...Troy Smith said in an interview "Guys from Glenville don't boast and brag about what we do, if you find one that does let us know and we'll get 'em straightened out", let's keep kids like that coming in, wow!

Someone earlier in the thread talked about winning w/out a running back, and I'd like to fix that...we won with a running back that did a better job blocking than we have had all year. Great game Branden Joe

The "best receiver in the nation" had 11 catches for 170+ yards. Youbouty looked good, but let's not call out Braylon Edwards. He was a stud.
He had great stats, but when his team needed him most he dropped it...lets not forgot that Michigan couldn't go anywhere except Braylon, Hart was shut down and the other receivers got locked down too...and we didn't get blown up on the big play except for the long touchdown where Fox was looking for a safety that never came

I'd Take Hart getting 40 yards (mostly in the first QUARTER) and Braylon having 170 any OSU Michigan game

I totally disagree with that comment, I think what you saw was a evolution of Tressel's offense and execution, even Coach T said so. I am sure they put some wrinkles in, but some of those plays were being run through out the year, they just weren't executed.

I feel better and better about the Iowa debacel every week as Iowa goes in and proves themselves and it becomes a lot more clear that we were in a bad state, but after a lot of things we found ourselves
