Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

Poor Al Golden, though if you take the Job at Miami you should be able to look at the wall of NCAA's most wanted (er, former Miami coaches) and realize what you're getting yourself into.

I don't give a fuck if Duh U was never on probation. This shit is so deep, so extensive, so blatant, so egregious, that the death penalty is the only answer. It's as bad, if not worse, than the shit SMU was pulling before they got killed.

And across two sports, with direct knowledge of the basketball coach.

Missouri fans had buyer's remorse five minutes after the Frank Haith hiring was announced. I wonder how they feel now.

They're subject to 'repeat violator' status. The 5-year period started in late February, 2003 for this violation (baseball mostly, also basketball related). NCAA,News.archive

Oh my! I disregarded the Mandel article and the above quote article because they referenced the Pell Grant issue which was resolved in 1995. I just assumed they had their dates mixed up. Who knew that the baseball team could expose the football program to the death penalty years later down the line?

For those concerned about ESPN's coverage, they just spent over 11 minutes on the Miami scandal at the beginning of the current SportsCenter.

Edit - Of course, when they introduce Robinson, they say this:

"This was Charles Robinson, the reporter who broke the story for Yahoo Sports, last night on SportsCenter."

Worded so that the casual listener could think that the story was actually broken on SportsCenter.

Between Texas A&M publicly declaring they're leaving the Big XII for the SEC, and then being humiliated with an equally public, "Nah, we don't want y'all," and now this story, I have to say that what has been quite possibly the worst, most tumultuous CFB off-season in my lifetime -- one so bad I was on the verge of losing interest in college sports and sports media coverage altogether -- just became awesome, and now I can't get enough!

Oh, phuck....
http://sports.yahoo.com/investigations/news?slug=ys-benard_thomas_allegations

Miami booster Nevin Shapiro alleges he provided an extra benefit to Benard Thomas the summer before the player?s senior season at Nebraska. The benefit he claimed to have provided:

- In the summer of 2003, Shapiro provided Thomas and two Hurricanes players - Kellen Winslow Jr. and D.J. Williams - with a leisure trip on his yacht that included food, drinks and jet skis.

Corroborating accounts

- Yahoo! Sports acquired multiple photos showing Thomas on Shapiro's yacht with Winslow Jr., Williams and friends of the players.

It would be the most ass-backwards thing in the world if this had any effect at all on Nebraska. There's no way it's reasonable to expect an institution to monitor a transfer student's previous school in any manner.

Don't get your panties in a wad...this is a public relations incident only. Not much the NCAA can do about something 8 years old involving only one player.

It's not the NCAA I'm worried about. It's ESPN grabbing this and starting the same bullshiat they did with tOSU.

Let's face it, they despise you guys, but there's no love lost with Nebraska and TexSPN either.

EDIT: Just did a Google search for Nebraska in the News...this is what came up:

http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/30759/marve-implicated-in-miami-allegations

Marve is not the only Big Ten figure mentioned in that sweeping series of stories from Yahoo! Sports. Shapiro said former Nebraska defensive end Bernard Thomas, a friend of former Hurricanes player D.J. Williams, came down to Miami to party on his yacht in 2003. That would have been the summer before his senior year. The story contains a photo of Thomas on a boat with Miami players.
