Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

And if anyone is shocked by this, especially after watching the ESPN 30 for 30 episode about "The U," they are delusional.

Shapiro goes back, what, eight years? This has been going on there, as a culture, for decades. Decades.

As I take it, both Matt and Andre may have been at a function with Shapiro while in high school. Not as worried, as they came to UF. However, if our recruiting coordinator was involved in that stuff, then that IS a huge concern of sphincter tightening proportions. The obvious worry is that he would bring that ethical baggage (in the way of what he thinks is the best/most effective means used to "bring them in") to our program.

Hell, if millionaires bought hookers for the recruits at Da U, the decade of not getting any players out of Miami makes a Hell of a lot more sense now.

Even the ESPN pukes will have to change targets now. This is not the kind of stuff that they can ignore. This is real news, and even an agenda will have to give way to their getting right on this.

Willis McGahee

From the article:
Shapiro also set up various "tournaments" where players won money for fishing, bowling and playing pool. And in the spirit of Luther Campbell's history with the program, Shapiro said he started a bounty system in 2002 tied to both rivalry games such as Florida State and Florida, and also games against highly ranked opponents.

I wonder if Willis McGahee had a bounty out on Will Allen?

And from later in the article:

He also spent thousands of dollars on suits and clothing for Hester, Gooden and McGahee at Fashion Clothiers ? purchases that were confirmed to Yahoo! Sports by the store?s owner, Shelly Bloom.

Shapiro bought plane tickets for two of McGahee?s female acquaintances to attend the 2002 Heisman Trophy ceremony and flew D.J. Williams? mother from California to Miami to spend time with her son and meet with Shapiro?s partner at Axcess Sports, Michael Huyghue.

Fuck MgGahee and his whiny "I want my ring and knee back" bitch ass is all I can say.

On a side note, talked to a colleague of mine today who graduated from Da U and he is in absolute denial this morning. He kept going on about how this guy is just looking for publicity, he is a felon, yadda yadda yadda..... That was before this broke. I have lunch scheduled with him soon as payment for the wager on the game last year (loser buys a steak lunch), it should be an interesting conversation to say the least.

Dan Wetzel - Why Miami Is In Trouble

More on the breaking scandal.

For our SEC fans:

While there may not be many boosters with such an over-the-top story, Shapiro knows he wasn?t the only fan doling out the under-the-table money. Maybe most damning for the sport is the fact that while he took care of current players, he says Miami coaches never asked him to buy a football recruit. Mainly because they felt it was fruitless.

?Miami is not the school where payouts are made to prospective student athletes,? Shapiro said. ?Miami is a private institution, it?s in a transient city. We didn?t have the money to pay recruits. There is so much more money in big public universities. In the SEC, the money is an endless river.

?If Miami relied on cash payoffs for players to come to Miami, they?d be out of business. They?d lose every bidding war."

ESPiN will somehow find a way to tie it back to Ohio State. Something like:
