Miami (FL) Hurricanes (1926-2003)

My advise is to not start this [Mark May]. The Tattoo artist that sold drugs was not a [censored]ing booster that passed checks to the University president...and the players had nothing to do with him selling drugs as Miami players had nothing to do with Shapiro's ponzi scheme that put him in federal pound you up the ass prison.

Much of the anger you see on here comes from Ohio State's situation being put in the same catagory as "true pay for play" schemes such as Miami's and USC's....your kicking a hornets nest

Shouldn't be a hornet's nest.

tOSU's transgressions are nowhere NEAR USC/UM, and anyone who puts your school in the same category, is just a hater, or trying to draw attention to their puke reporting.

Really, Shark? I thought you were better than that. Our house just got an additional rock thrown at it by a freaking breast cancer charity event, a breast cancer charity event! And you want to compare 3 players getting into a charity event and 6 guys getting tats to over 70 players in the company of a booster constantly giving the kids access to stuff they clearly would not have been able to get otherwise on their own means. All while passing money to the school president, sitting in a suite down the hall at games, leading the team out of the tunnel twice, almost getting into a physical brawl with athletic personnel over trying to reign him in, and all the while claiming that these benefits and ridiculousness were completely unknown to them over the course of 10 years?

Like Gator said, perspective. It matters.

Oh, I'm not as bad as the others - I just see the CONSTANT criticisms, while ignoring the news.

I have the perspective - but criticizing others, while your own school keeps popping up in the news, is not really a good show.

As I've said MANY times, I think the tat thing was WAY blown out of proportion, as was the Miami thing, where supposedly 97,347 players were involved, and now it's like, um, 10? 12?

I do agree, that for SOME reason, tOSU always seems to get put under the biggest freaking microscope on earth - can't say why, don't really understand it, but damn! You guys have some haters in the media.

Look at it this way - when the Miami scandal broke, as grandiose as it sounded, it took ESPiN what, 2 days to report? And this thing with the gift bags? (f'ing REALLY? GIFT bags for crying out loud????) ESPiN reported it like freaking INSTANTLY!

All-in-all, I'd say you guys here have opened my eyes to the way ESPiN operates... Hadn't really noticed it, really wasn't looking for it, either.

Um, not really - just check espn.com, and see if the house is REALLY in order.

THIS is what you meant:

Find me a school where something like this couldn't happen.

Anyone who thinks this is a case of athletes willingly and brazenly using their status to gain advantages and not 3 kids being dumb and not realizing what they were doing is a bigger spin artist than Craig James.

I don't think the numbers have changed. Yahoo said there were over 100 players/recruits, but only named 72 since that's all they could corroborate. Of those, only 12 were current players. The suspensions of most of them (anybody receiving less than $100 doesn;t get suspended), bodes well for Yahoo's reporting being pretty accurate.

The investigation into former players will go on for some time, but the NCAA has no ability to make any of them talk. We'll see if the lawsuits filed by folks that lost money to Shapiro in the Ponzi scheme will bring out any more information.

I believe a couple of coaches are involved as well.

From what the news said when the suspensions were announced, at least one is involved. I specifically read in Vernon's case, that not only was it during recruiting, but that a staff member was involved.

For me, that's unforgivable - that coach/staff member needs to be removed from CFB for 3-5 years - no exceptions, whether he/she is still at Miami, or has moved on.

Shark, the guy allegedly given the cash to take the kids go to strip clubs was a University employee. That - if true - is beyond a "what did he know?" thing, and one of the more serious issues. IMO.

For the record, if boosters were giving improper benefits to Gator players it would not surprise me. I would be surprised if it did NOT happen at any major football power in a BCS conference.

You forgot the part about you not taking pleasure in all this.

I concur - and we have the same opinion.

These parents send their kids to these colleges, I would hope, to help their kids become men, etc... If they're corrupting them BEFORE they even join the school, and after, then that sh!t needs to stop.

There's a scene in Biloxi Blues that comes to mind.....

Why in the world would I say that? I enjoy the [censored] out of Miami or FSU or Georgia having issues and/or getting plunger raped by the NCAA. Champagne cork popping, high fiving, popcorn munching while I watch news on the teevee about it with pleasure.

I don't enjoy it when tOSU has issues. I have no reason I can think of to dislike your program like I loathe theirs. Y'all were key in getting us our first MNC in '96. Your program and fans are the B1G program and fan base that most reminds me of Florida. <insert ducking behind couch smilie here>

*I do enjoy discussions that involve trying to lead a minority of moonies into the light :p
