There has been discussion about the officiating but one non-call in particular leaves me shaking my head, literally. I still don't see how an entire officiating crew can miss a block in the back happen directly in front of the returner...I guess not one of them saw this block take out two players right in front of the play!

YouTube - Block in the back

ACC refs = FAIL.

A bigger no call was the series of grabs on our #42? Sweat in the center/right. He couldn't get into the gap in time because of multiple grabs.

No Jack Tatum? I thought the hit to knock the ball loose in the end zone would be a good candidate. Was that CJ?

IIRC, the Tatum hit-of-the-week isn't decided until around Wednesday, because the team votes on it. I believe both CJ and Hines had hits that broke up a near TD. CJ's hit on Hankerson would be a good candidate, as well as Johnny Simon embedding Harris in the turf.

Most important stat of the day... 0

Ohio State has not turned the ball over this season thus far.

FIFY

That gives us a +7 turnover ratio on the season, or +3.5 per game. I don't expect it will continue at that pace, but you win a lot of games that way. One of the benefits of having upperclassmen at every offensive skill position.

Okay, maybe your stat was more important, I just hadn't done a FIFY in awhile.

Quote from the canes board which I thought was impressive...

http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=13&f=2927&t=6364628

I really don't understand what was with the hatred to begin with.
I'm a die-hard, orange-and-green to the bone Canes fan.

Miami LOST that 2003 NC game - anyone saying different either watched a different game, or has blinders on. I've said it before, I'll say it again: That PI call, did not END the game, only EXTENDED it, meaning Miami had a chance to WIN the game, which it did not. THAT is ignoring the OOB call on Gamble, which should've been a first down, and OSU runs out the clock anyway.

That being said, I agree with what that quote says.
The only recent problem child I can remember, was Clarett, and I'm sure that surprised even JT, but "a Reggie Bush he ain't." I'm sure people have tried to dig DEEP and HARD (damn that sounds funny) into the OSU program, and for a few years now, and what have they found?

Nothing.

My opinion on this OSU team, is they have an EXTREMELY workman-like attitude and output.

No, there's no golden-arm, 31/35 451 yards, 4TD, 0 INT passer...
No, there's no 30 rushes for 271 yards, 3 TD running back...

But you know what? It's not needed.
Everyone on the squad does there job, and does it well.

Take for example the picks where the Miami receivers bobbled into OSU's hands... Some would say those were 2-3 lucky plays.

Well, maybe...

But if the OSU players were not WHERE THEY WERE SUPPOSED to be, then they wouldn't have made the plays...

Doing their jobs, and doing it well.
You don't need a team of superstars to win a NC.
You DO need a squad who does their jobs, do it right, have some cnap in their step, have gameday focus, and all work as a team.

That is EXACTLY what I saw Saturday from the scarlet and gray.
Personally? I hope you guys go far. Team is talented, WELL coached, and focused.
Beat us fair and square, and I enjoyed watching the game.

Now, THAT above may piss off some supposed "canes fans," but those can kiss my @ss. A REAL Canes fan would admit the OBVIOUS, and at least have enough fuggin' decency to give some props...This game is first and foremost about teamwork, leadership, and mutual respect.

If you can't respect the teams and players, whether your team or others, then GTFO and watch billiards or golf - we don't need your type associated with CFB.

Are there a lot of low-rent, trash-talking billiards fans that I missed?

How do you see the Canes finishing up the season? To me, it looks like the Thursday night game at Pitt might be the toughest test left on the schedule, unless the ACC under-performers (GaTech, VaTech, UNC, FSU) turn things around soon. Could be 10-2 with a berth in the ACC title game ... OSU fans should hope for a result like that, as it would help with our strength of schedule.

I dunno - I'm still analyzing.
I expected them to play MUCH better Saturday. Fundamentals are KILLING them. As long as most of this squad has been together, I expected more. I'll get back to you after another game or two.

And yeah, I expected more from the ACC in general.
Granted, an SEC or B10 it isn't, but I did expect more.

FSU's showing against OU was horrific...
VT? Enough said there... I honestly think it was a tremendous hangover, as I HOPE they're not that bad - I've always liked Beamer, and always thought he was a good, tough, HONEST coach.

I had the privilege of meeting Coach Beamer about 7 years ago, when he was down here to speak to the mother of a kid he was recruiting, and I happened to be in the building. Generally nice guy, VERY knowledgeable of the game, passionate on it's history, and even though he was on a recruiting trip, and I was a Canes fan, he MADE the time to speak with me for 3-5 minutes.

That's the kinda' [censored] you don't forget, ya know? I respect and admire that. I'm pretty sure, from all outward appearances, that JT is the same kinda' guy...

But yeah, better we do, better your SOS is.

I'm HOPING for 1 loss, and that the Bucks game was an oversight, as with the talent they have, they SHOULDN'T lose to any remaining opponents on the regular schedule.

We know how THAT always goes, though...
If they play like they did Saturday, they could potentially drop another 2-3.

You DON'T give up the rock 4 times in a game. At LEAST make your opponents work it...
You DON'T give the opponent half the field. Let them earn the other 40-50 yards.
You DON'T slide off of tackles like water off a duck's back. Make them FIGHT for the gains...

Just basic, fundamental football. The mistakes they made, are [censored] you learn in pee-wee ball.

If I were Shannon, I'd be running tackling drills until they vomited.
Receivers? I'd be making them catch passes until they had blisters.
D-Line? I'd be making them work like a BITCH to quit holding, and get some damn penetration.
ST? They'd be out behind the woodshed, right after the receivers.
Harris? I'd REMIND him of the 17 picks last year, and that he's already got 25% of that, in 18% of the games!

Good, smart, basic fundamental football.

Sorry to ramble, but I love this game....

I think the one in the endzone was Hines. CJ had that great hit over the middle on Hankerson earlier and then the deflected ball to Nate too.

Ah, yeah that's the one I was thinking of. Haven't re-watched yet. Any hit that knocks a sure touchdown catch out of the opponents hands has to be considered.

http://canespundit.com/2010/09/13/report-from-columbus/

We'll give our initial thoughts and have our Road Game Journal entry up tomorrow, chronicling our trip to Columbus (trust me, you don't want to miss it). I will say this -- the Buckeye fans impressed us with their kindness and congeniality. We weren't expecting that. Sure there were some bad seeds, but for every F bomb hurled our way there were 8-10 people coming up and welcoming us and wishing us well. Also, for those reports that the Shoe isn't loud... uh, it is. 105,000 strong and it sure sounded like it.

Cont'd ...

My Thoughts

Some thoughts after Saturday's game versus Miami:

We have the classiest coach in all of sports. Gentleman Jim says it all.

We will once again have one of the best Defenses in CFB. Simon is a beast and I was impressed by CJ Barnett's play. DO. NOT. MAKE. A. MISTAKE. AGAINST. THIS. DEFENSE. You will pay!!

Our Offensive special teams played great. Our coverage team on Defense really needs to improve. No brainer. I love Berry and Hall as our return men. Very impressive. Both of these guys are playmakers. We should see a few TD returns with these two guys this year.

The next few weeks are going to give TP some time to really shore up his play and work on some things before Conference play begins.

We have a very good OL which has not been making mistakes. False starts and missed assignments are not a frequent problem, as was the case, at times, the last few years. This unit has really come together and should just get better as the season goes on.

scUM still sucks!

That right there would still piss me off...

Most of these "U fans" don't realize how passionate and knowledgeable some fanbases are, like OSU, OU, Nebraska, etc..

Maybe it's a small cross-section they see online talking smack, of which unfortunately, WE have a larger cross-section.

I can understand travelling to Michigan, or Penn State, Notre Dame, USC...We probably can't show our faces in Texas, either, after that 1991 Cotton Bowl...

After the reaction across all of Ohio to that Herbstreit high school football game last Monday, in which Ohio fans were more vocal than even Florida fans, they should've known better.

Now, all THAT being said, I'll apologize right now if any of you are coming down for next year's game - most folks here going to the game ain't got a lick of sense, and they'll be going, just because it's "the place to be."

For any of you coming down, I'll give ya my cell phone, and we can have a night on the town as CFB fans, and I'll tell ya what to do, and where to go...
But please know now, as I'm giving you FAIR warning, there's gonna be an awwwwwful lot of assclowns in Dolphins Stadium, or whatever the hell it's name is in 2011.
