Miami Dolphins (Official Thread)

Martin played for Harbaugh... I can't imagine Harbaugh being a softy on him in college... probably not to Incognito's level but something is shady about this whole deal

Yes, something is indeed shady about Martin's actions here. We aren't getting the entire story.

No one else is saying it so I will: Martin is acting like a giant vagina. This isn't school. This isn't a bunch of kids on a playground, he's allegedly a man in a locker room filled with other men. No, Incognito shouldn't have said what he said and there is no defending that despite what some of the Dolphins players are saying, but Martin needs to stand up for himself to Incognito, not running to the press and acting like a punk, and ironically, proving the perception of him as correct. Martin is as done in the NFL as Incognito is and maybe even moreso. Does he have to resort to punching Incognito like that moron Jeff Ireland suggested? No. But there are other ways of standing up for yourself - both public and private - that would have fixed the issue. And checking into a hospital for "emotional distress"? sure thing....

This story gets weirder and weirder.

Now we have Dolphins veterans who are coming out, sticking up for the racist moron and saying they thought the two of them were friends.

We know Richie Incognito is a dumbass. A racist. Probably a guy with some anger issues. But it's clear to me that he had the backing of the other players in the locker room, the coaches and seemingly everyone from at least the GM on down in the organization.

What isn't clear to me is what drove Martin to this reaction. There's no way this was the only occurrence and he almost certainly wasn't the only player subjected to it. While Incognito has serious issues of his own (as do other players in the org as well as org management), this Martin guy is a mental case as well.

Weird goings on in Cryami these days.
Someone on the radio yesterday suggested that either a) they were friends until Incog found out Martin was gay, or b) they are both gay and were "more than friends". I am not validating any of that, just throwing it out there. It is really weird that everyone says they were "close" before this though. Whole thing is, to quote Jerry Lawler, "bizzaro world".

It is kinda like something out of pro fake wrestling though....the whole gay angle would be interesting if true....

When Incognito said he and Martin were friends, I kind of laughed. Now I see that sentiment confirmed from a bulk of the team. Then we see reports of the coaching staff trying to "toughen" him up.

I have this feeling Richie took that upon himself, maybe went a bit far and now Martin is in bipolar mode. Actually that isn't a joke, kid might just be bipolar. Or soft. His dad's comment made me laugh

" he's from Stanford and he's not used to hanging around LSU, USC, type of guys".

Wow, they're really doubling down on the "bullying" issue -- and by "they" I mean "the Martin camp", since that's what you call it when the lawyers get involved.

"For the entire season and a half that he was with the Dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the harassment," the statement said. "This is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying. Despite these efforts, the taunting continued. ...

Not to make light of this story but I wonder whatever happened to the Browns turkey hunt. Years ago Cleveland Browns veterans would tell rookies that they could get turkeys cheap at a place outside of Cleveland and the rookies were drive there to find no turkeys.

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/11/desmond-howard-racial-slur-dolphins-richie-incognito/

Desmond Howard appeared on SportsCenter on Friday and was asked to weigh in on the Richie Incognito and Jonathan Martin saga in Miami. When Howard discussed the idea that some players felt Incognito was an “honorary black man” the Heisman Trophy winner characterized the Dolphins locker room using a racial slur.
“What level of [racial slur] is going on the Miami Dolphins’ locker room?,” Howard asked.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Incognito-held-Oline-meetings-at-strip-club.html

According to two sources, suspended Dolphins guard Richie Incognito regularly held meetings for the team’s offensive linemen at a South Florida strip club, demanding that other linemen attend at the location. Incognito went so far as to “fine” teammates in an erstwhile kangaroo court if they did not show up.

“Richie wanted to set up Richie’s world as a way for everybody to act,” a team source said. “Richie thinks everybody should act that way. He doesn’t get that some guys aren’t into that behavior. Some guys don’t want to constantly explain to their wife or girlfriend why they have to go to a strip club.”
