Miami Dolphins (Official Thread)

Martin's case is somewhat similar to Michael Sam except without the political slant. If he doesn't return to the Dolphins, I doubt you'll see anyone want to bring in that kind of distraction. The guy wasn't exactly setting the world on fire as a player as it was....

If you're going to nail Incognito because of this report, then you're going to have to get Pouncey and whoever the other guys were that are involved. The NFL is going to be glad to let this one slide - and any suspensions coming Incognito's way are going to be mitigated by the time missed this year. An All-Pro caliber Guard isn't going to not get back in the league because of this.....you'll likely see some mandated anger management counseling/anti-bullying but that's just to appease the masses and the mediots.
Yep. Pouncey is just as big of an idiot as Incognito.

"Distraction" seems to be the new buzzword in the NFL - see the Michael Sam story. Frankly I find the hypocrisy of the NFL culture hilarious in this situation.

It's all politics - Bullying is an issue, but the whole gay rights thing is a much larger elephant in the room. The Damming thing here is Martin's texts back to Incog. If they had been something like "hey stop" or "That went too far" or something along that vein, that would be one thing. But it was clear to me that is was my dudes being bros and whatnot until Martin went to the media and basically quit.

Something doesn't fit here though. So Martin is going along with the texting (he's not innocent here either) and then one day decides to just stop and play the victim? I've heard other people theorize that Martin was simply trying to fit in to the locker room culture - keep pace, if you will - and eventually it got to be too much.

His options were basically:
1) Recognize he simply doesn't have the mentality, mindset, etc. and never enter the NFL in the first place...though it's hard to foresee joining a team as exceptionally toxic as the Dolphins.
2) Confront Incognito either verbally or physically from the get-go. It's impossible to say how that would've turned out.
3) "Man up." This is the preferred route by some NFL fans.
4) Do what he did.

Options 1 and 4 end his NFL career. I very seriously doubt the Dolphins are the only NFL franchise with this type of atmosphere.

To that extent though? Seems like a pretty jacked-up environment to work in.

I doubt it gets to that extent, chiefly because there is clear leadership in most other locker rooms but also because like what Mark Schlereth said this morning, there is a line and it was clearly drawn in the sand when he was in the NFL. apparently that wasn't the case with the Dolphins, which leads back to the leadership issue.

Dolphins Release OL Coach, Trainer cited in Wells report

The Miami Dolphins announced today that offensive line coach Jim Turner and Head Athletic Trainer Kevin O'Neill have been relieved of their duties effective immediately. Turner served as Miami's offensive line coach for the past two seasons, while O'Neill was in his position for the past 18 years.

"The language and behavior as described in the Ted Wells report are against the core values of our organization," said Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. "After receiving the report, I conducted my own internal review of the facts to determine the appropriate steps for our organization. Jim Turner and Kevin O'Neill are good people who care a great deal about their profession and the players whom they serve, but both exhibited poor judgment at times which led me to this conclusion. As owner, I know firsthand of the high-character and dedicated professionals in our building. I believe in our team and know the hard work and sacrifices they make every day on the field and in the community. However, this is an opportunity and a teaching moment not only for the coaches, staff and players in our locker room, but also for participants throughout sports. I am in contact with Jonathan Martin and we plan to meet soon. Next week, I will provide further details of our partnership with the NYU School of Law and the NYU Center for Sports and Society regarding a broader effort to address conduct in sports. My commitment to our fans, coaches, players and staff is that we will be a stronger organization going forward.”

Well, with Dion Jordan gone for the season there goes a huge trading chip they were looking at trying to get up a little further in the draft. Now, I really hope they go down in the draft and pick up another 2nd round. Possible trading partner: Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys are really interested in Todd Gurley who is probably going to be there for the Dolphins but won't get past San Diego a couple picks later and well ahead of Dallas. An extra 2nd round pick and swapping 1st' picks makes a lot of sense. If this happens I'm all for going with best talent available in positions of need.

ILB, WR, OL and DB are where we lack depth. The first 3 picks then for the Dolphins would be #27 from Dallas, #47 and #60. My dream draft at that point would be these three players for the Dolphins

#27 Cameron Erving, C Florida State if he is there
#47 Devin Smith, WR Ohio State
#60 Tevin Coleman, RB Indiana or Amir Abdullah, RB Nebraska

Erving could very well be gone at #27 so a guy like Eric Kendricks, ILB UCLA would also be a great fit. The other two guys should be there for the Dolphins when they pick. Let's see how it pans out.

If we dont make the trade down, I want Trae Waynes, CB Michigan State in the first round instead of Devante Parker, WR Louisville who I think a lot of people pick Miami as taking in that spot. Then there's only one second round spot without the trade so if they take Waynes in the first, there's still Devin Smith in the 2nd.

Fingers crossed

Looking back on the draft I'd give the Dolphins a solid B+ for the draft. They addressed every hole with solid players except for the LB position. Looks like they've added some quality UFA's for a possible sleeper. Gem of the draft might just be Jay Ajayi in the 5th round if his knee holds up for him. With the people added in FA already, I really believe the Dolphins will be ready to challenge the Patriots for the division if Philbin figures out how to coach them up.

Knew it was coming but might have been a little too soon. Extended Tannehill through 2020. If he makes another jump and gains some consistency it'll be worth it. Now he has some guys he can grow with on offense. Looking forward to this season for a change.

$77M for 4 years, $45M guaranteed.

Andrew Luck (same draft class) is doing backflips.
