I won a math debate
Meh, heard the new song today. I grew up punk, I liked Metallica during Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightening and Master of Puppets, though, I did think RTL and MOP had songs that were way too long. Hearing the new song today and having it hyped to hell on KROQ, our local radio station, I have to say I was not at all impressed. Sorry CCI.

The 411: Metallica took a shot at redemption and hit a home run. ?Death Magnetic? is a front-to-back solid album, with decent vocals, great drums, amazing riffs, and some of the best guitar solos I?ve heard in a long time. This will easily be Metal Album of the Year. I don?t think there?s anything that will come close.

The 411: Every Death Magnetic review you'll read will likely all say the same thing: Metallica is back. And they are. Now, I can't justifying going any higher than I have because I'm a great believer thay lyrics are as important to the quality of music as the use on the instruments and vocals and the majority of the lyrics on this album are not that great. But Metallica fans should already know that they aren't exactly the Shaekspeare of song lyrics. And outside of that complaint, this is an amazing album, almost untouchable in terms of modern releases. I think people's opinions in regards to best songs, weak songs, heavy songs etc will differ and differ greatly, but the general consensus should be that this is an incredible album. Metallica at its finest, maybe not, but it's as good as any of us could have expected.

I will say that the album is "OK" or "Good", but not great, especially from someone like Metallica. Still doesnt touch the new Slipknot.......sorry CCI :p

The album is good. They did go back to the harder edge stuff, which is awesome. I will say that the one thing Metallica always did was create those "epic" songs like Battery, Puppets, One, FWTBT, etc..........and this album doesnt have that. One of those songs that you just cant help but listen to over and over again, etc. I like the guitar work, but the vocals are subpar. Compared to their last 3 albums, this one is phenominal. Compared to the original stuff, no, still doesnt come close.

Maybe its just because I have been following and listening to their live stuff the last few years so I know what to expect from his voice, but I think Hetfield did an awesome job vocally.
