Men's Basketball Buckeye Tidbits 2007-08 Season

I have to go to work so I will just ask this question and give my answer when I get home tonight.
What role do you think think Madsen will play this year? But before we answer we need to get his stats and a little history in here.

I don't think putting Madsen's high school's stats would be fair to him. He has been out of high school for two years now and I am a big fan of his and it is not because I know him or anything like that. He went against Oden in practice every day last year so you must have learned something. I have also talked to someone who saw him practice last year and speaks very highly of him.

I personally see him sharing time with Kosta at the 4 position on offense and possibly playing some 5 on defense.

Its going to be nice to have guys like Madsen and Lauderdale to come in off the bench who at the very least should be able to use their size and athletic ability to get rebounds and play some D. We should be pretty deep in the post next year.

Just got off the phone with my buddy and checked thru email about a couple other things that I have been reading...

I asked him about Madsen because some have been wondering about him...He is just what most of us have thought...He is a guy that is willing to do the dirty work with his hustle...Not sure on the amount of minutes that will be split between him and Twig, as they will both be coing off the bench IMO, but Madsen is more athletic than Twig, but Twig has the size on him...They are both ahead of Lauderdale who is not quite ready for college ball yet...I think he will get there, but don't expect a lot of minutes from him...

Better report about Turner this time...He is playing all on the wing, and can paly either or...Still needs some refinement on his shot, but he will be just fine and his defense will help him see the floor more...With Butler, Lighty, Turner we are going to be very good at defending the perimeter...

Once again glowing reports about Diebler...Man I can't wait to see him suit up...I have always liked the guys that can just flat out shoot the rock and Diebler is one of them...

The one thing about this team, is that we will be young, but we will once again have some upperclassmen to lead the freshmen, while with Turner and Diebler they just strike you as guys that are natural leaders...

Noopy and Mullens were also there...From what my buddy saw, he said Mullens would start hands down over any of the big men we have, even tho KK was not there as he is still overseas...Noopy held his own, and my buddy said his ranking is a joke, much like many of us have said...

And to what is kinda bugging me...Since Butler has been here, for whatever reason many have drug him thru the mud somewhat...As a frosh people were calling it a wasted schollie, but what many don't know is that he was asked to play defense and to not worry about his offense, and basically told to limit his shots...

Then he went on to have a all big ten season his sophmore season playing the point where he has played forever, ever since he has played basketball, then with Conley coming in the staff asked him to move to the off guard position to get them both on the floor at the same time, and he did, and he struggled quite a bit getting used to playing there and as we all saw he struggles in catch and shoot, he is much better shooting the ball off the dribble, which is where he will be at this season...

Then throw in all the rumors and the hoopla about him turning pro and being unhappy about the freshmen stealing the show and him being upset that they left and yadda yadda...

He has not been at the open gyms that my buddy has attended, but let me tell you that Butler will be just fine this year and I am expecting another all big ten season from him...

Hope you guys enjoy the report as it will be the last as my buddy doesnt play on attending anymore open gyms...

Yes cbf, thanks for the report . I wish we could get this kind of stuff on the football thread. It sounds like Madsen is going to be the role player I thought and that is good since teams with all stars don't usually fare very well. It also sounds like he might steal some of Twigs time which I wish wouldn't happen kinda sorta.
Anyway thanks a lot.

That is my thikning on Madsen as well...Wouldnt be suprised to see him and Twig get PT depending on the matchups with the other teams, in terms of whether they have a banger or a more athletic big guy...

I guess when I don't understand is if Madsen does not play the 4 position who is going to back up KK or get quality minutes at the 4. Wallace? From all that I have heard Madsen can handle the ball fairly well for a big guy and has a decent shot out to 15'.

I also have a friend who knows basketball pretty well and has seen Mullen play been said that he could probably start for almost any college program as a freshman and that he will be ready for the NBA after one year.

And to what is kinda bugging me...Since Butler has been here, for whatever reason many have drug him thru the mud somewhat...As a frosh people were calling it a wasted schollie, but what many don't know is that he was asked to play defense and to not worry about his offense, and basically told to limit his shots...

I totally agree with your statements regarding Jamar. For the past three years, he has either been asked to play a different role or a different position and has always taken it in stride. I think that he, and he probably should be, will be one of the leaders of this team. I don't know what more people can expect from him.

Thanks for sharing your friend's insights:).

OSU seeks architect for Schottenstein addition

Wednesday, August 29, 2007 3:30 AM
By Bob Baptist

Ohio State is moving ahead with plans to expand the Schottenstein Center with a second basketball practice facility, new offices for coaches and a central area where the men's and women's teams' trophies can be displayed.

Though the project has not been officially approved, the athletics department has been authorized to hire an architect, athletic director Gene Smith said yesterday.

I wasn't sure if there was already a thread in this forum discussing season tickets etc for this coming basketball season, so I just figured I'd ask this here...

I just bought my student season tickets, and it said the lower bowl is general admission: 1.) Is that what it was last year? and 2.) I assume this is just talking about behind the baskets, correct?

Edit: I was looking at the email we got, and when it said 4,000 student season tickets are available I misread that to mean all in the lower bowl, so I assume we're still behind this baskets this season. But since I made a post about it anyway, anyone know if any changes are being made again this season to make for a better atmosphere at the Schott?

I'm pretty mad that they are not offering the split season packages this year. I'll be graduating so I can't get the entire season tickets. Looks like I'll just have to go to the Florida game, since they decided to include the UNC game as part of the Big Ten package :shake:

looks like sets might be first come first serve basis. i still like how msu does it, stand in line, dont get there early, go to the upper deck, dont wear the izzone shirt, upper deck, arent loud and rambunctious, upper deck...
