Marshall dismisses freshmen Mike Fleurizard, Antwon Chisholm, Fred Pickett - ESPN
Marshall dismisses three freshmen

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The first day of fall practice at Marshall began Wednesday with new coach Doc Holliday dismissing three freshmen, one of whom was charged in a robbery.
Gone are defensive tackle Mike Fleurizard, running back Antwon Chisholm and wide receiver Fred Pickett. All three are from Florida.

"We have high expectations of our players and these three have not lived up to what we require of a Marshall University football player," Holliday said. "They have lost the privilege of playing football at Marshall and have been dismissed from our football team."

Holliday didn't cite any specific incident for the dismissals.

Contd....

Going to be an epic 40points plus beatdown in front of the entire nation on the first Thursday of the college football season.

Terrelle can put his name into the mix as a serious contender with a brilliant performance and then follow it up vs Miami the next week.

Marshall doesnt have enough horses this time around to hang in this game.

Any chance this game will be shown on ESPN as well as BTN????

:osu:

At the Big Ten Media Luncheon on August 3rd, host Rece Davis talked about the start of the college football season, and mentioned the start of the season on Sept 2nd, between Southern Miss and South Carolina on ESPN, without mentioning any Big Ten games on the same date.

I couldn't see Jim Delany at the time, but I assume he was pissed, since that game has the same scheduled kickoff on ESPN as the Marshall-tOSU game on the BTN, and the Towson-Indiana game on the BTN (overflow channel for most of us), and the Minnesota-Middle Tennessee St. game on ESPNU.

I'm normally OK with Rece Davis, but that statement was poorly conceived, typical self-promoting BS, and a slap in the face of the Big Ten Conference, whose meeting he was attending. Talking about the start of football, and not mentioning the teams whose coaches and most of their captains are in the room, but instead just pimping ESPN's game. He could have at least mentioned the Minnesota game on ESPNU.

So to answer your question, no, this game won't be on ESPN, or Rece would have hyped it.

I agree that I'll take the win. Screw the score. But I don't agree with the rest of your post. "We usually lay an egg" is just wrong.

11-24-01 Michigan 26-20
8-24-02 Texas Tech 45-21
9-14-02 Washington 25-7
11-23-02 Michigan 14-9
1-3-03 Miami 31-24
1-2-04 Kansas State 35-28
11-20-04 Michigan 37-21
12-29-04 Oklahoma State 33-7
11-19-05 Michigan 25-21
1-2-06 Notre Dame 34-20
9-9-06 Texas 24-7
11-18-06 Michigan 42-39
11-7-09 Penn State 24-7
11-21-09 Iowa 27-24
1-1-10 Oregon 26-17

And that's just the biggest games I could think of. I'm sure there are others.

Yes, Ohio State occasionally "lays an egg", but I definitely disagree with your word "usually" in there.

I think he means early season OOC non-marque games. It's not an egg, but it's hardly been overwhelming, but wins are wins.

This year, I think Marshall and the other OOC teams get rolled. Why? Because it's a new year.

I'll take a W as well, and I'm not one of those suggesting we hang 70 points on the board but...

Which of those games were played under the lights?

Under the lights on a Thursday night?

Under the lights, on a Thursday night, to kickoff the College football season?
