I'll second that. I'll add that Sanchez seemed like a good kid when the Buckeyes were recruiting him, and I hope that he's OK and able to take the field Week 1 and Week 3.

That sucks for the young man. Hope he can come back at some point.

For SC, I don't think this will affect them that much. Fall camp hasn't broke yet, and Mustain and Corp are two very dangerous QBs. This is no doubt in my mind that one of these two has the ability to become the next Matt Leinart, so there is not letting down for the Buckeyes.

I remember as a youngster dislocating my knee playing a game of sandlot football. Immensenly painful and my knee cap was swoll up the size of a softball. I don't remember how long I had my cast on (but it was at least a month or more) and then it took another few weeks before I had my strength back in the knee. So, it would be quite miraculous, if MS was ready to go by the Ohio State game. If he's back, his mobility will be very limited.

I looked at a few links, and this one seemed to have decent info. It's hard to give a timeframe without knowing the extent of the damage.

Best wishes for the young man to get healthy.

As far as USC goes, I know they have talented guys lined up but Sanchez was going to be the starter for a reason. Reason most likely being he was better than the others at this point in his career. This isn't just an "oh well bring on the next guy" kind of thing.

This is something I'm familiar with in that I've dislocated both kneecaps at one time or another. Grad is right as usual, the concern is what ancillary damage was done to the ligaments around the knee. It's not only a case of them being torn but a case of them being stretched significantly. In the knee I hurt pretty badly, I didn't tear anything but I broke off a significant chunk of cartilage from behind the kneecap as well as some bone from both the femur and the patella. I also significantly stretched the ligaments around the knee. A simple scope cleaned it out but it took 6 months of rehab and my knee still isn't nearly as strong. If the ligament is significantly stretched in an athlete, they may choose to "tighten up" the ligament by shortening and reattaching it but this requires nearly the same recovery as a tear. So, there are varying degrees of damage that could have been done. Best case scenario, some rehab and he could be back in a month or two. Most likely, he's looking at a redshirt year. Worst case scenario, this is something that will plague him going forward in that once it happens its prone to happen again as the ligaments are now stretch and the way is paved so to speak for the kneecap to travel. If he walked off under his own power, he's probably looking at only a month or two. If he was carted off, it was likely more serious. The pain isn't great (wasn't for me anyway) but the knee loses all stability because of the stretched or torn ligaments and it takes a very long time, even for someone in great shape, to get them back to normal where reinjury isn't a risk.

Onlookers said Sanchez was throwing the ball to teammate Clay Matthews, hopped after completing the toss, landed awkwardly on his foot and twisted his knee.

?He was all by himself,? USC coach Pete Carroll said. ?It was a silly thing that happened.?

Carroll did not know the severity of the injury but said he hoped to have news sometime tonight. About 6:25 p.m., offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian said a doctor was on his way to examine Sanchez?s knee and give a preliminary diagnosis.

About a half-hour after practice, Sanchez emerged from an SUV on crutches with a large black brace on his left knee. He used the crutches to slowly make his way into the USC locker room.​
