Mark Sanchez (Philadelphia Eagles)

LJB: Davis never committed, and at least the other two didn't wait until NLOI day to pull a stupid-assed stunt.

McClover most certainly did pull a NLOI day stupid-assed stunt, complete with switching hats at the last minute when he picked Auburn at his school.

Davis claims he told the coaches he wanted to be a Buckeye and acted like he couldn't believe the staff didn't send an LOI.

Thanks for having my back, Nutty.

Davis did everything but commit... For months prior to Signing Day, he talked about how he was a Buckeye, how it would be great playing with D'Andrea, etc. He went so far as to recruit other players to OSU (a la Justin Zwick and Ryan Williams). When he didn't actually commit, he didn't get an LOI; when he didn't get an LOI on Signing Day, he whined and moaned and dropped OSU from consideration. (BTW, Davis' LOI went to Richard Washington, who also pulled a Signing Day switcheroo). That's why I said "Davis, sort of".

As Nutty correctly pointed out, McClover pulled an egregious Signing Day stunt, very offensive to OSU.

Dwayne Jarrett verballed to OSU on the eve (literally) of Signing Day, then hours later inked the LOI to USC.

EDIT: I might also add Durell Price, from L.A., who faxed his LOI to OSU upside down (essentially, he faxed a blank sheet of paper to the coaches - thus, his LOI was unofficial and non-binding). Later that day, he signed an LOI for UCLA, and went there instead. BTW, OSU got another Californian in his place, Na'il Diggs - not a bad trade, IMO.

In terms of recruiting 'damage' IMO you can add Darius Walker and Leon Hart to that list. Indications are that both led OSU coaches to believe they were coming and Hart in particular may have led OSU to pass on other candidates. I am sure that happens a lot, and we are talking about teenagers. But I can't imagine trying to put together a recruiting strategy that is based on the decision making process of a 17 year old male.

I don't recall that...how long ago was that?

If I recall, McClover verballed shortly after the 03 Fiesta but had a change of heart a few weeks later... well before LOI day.

The biggest dupe, at least in terms of the local media, was Prescott Burgess....
I remember i was watching NBC and theguy comes on and says something like, "On the heels of a fiesta bowl win and Ohio State's first NC since 1968, Tressell and company will recieve a verbal comittment from Prescott Burgess tomorrow." Burgess is, of course, playing for the bad guys... or should I say riding the pine for the bad guys....
On the other hand, he never verballed to OSU either.

Hadn't heard about that one before. Did Diggs literally use the schollie reserved for Price or was he just in the same class?

I could've sworn it was Washington and not McClover that pull the signing day hat switch crap. Anyway, back to my initial point...I don't think that Sanchez would back out of a commitment.

You don't have to believe me or LJB. Ask HH.

He got Durell Price's scholarship

Cooper knew Na'il's sister from his time at Arizona State. When Price backed out (the fax excuse wasn't so bad when considering he had kids in California to look out for), Diggs got his scholarship instead. I think Diggs' sister was dating USC's basketball coach, too, and somehow I think his firing from there also played a role in Na'il's decision to come to Columbus.
