Mack Brown (ex-Texas and ex-UNC Head Coach)

I don't know if I would classify the job as "easy" per-se.
True, there are millions of dollars and world class facilities at the disposal of the coaching staff and there are plenty of great recruits to be had - but you're also fighting a minimum of 5 top programs in the surrounding areas for these players (Tech, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oklahoma, LSU). My understanding is that Mack Brown has a crazy schedule of booster club meetings he has to address and this is before he even looks at a shred of game film or hits the practice field.

The Big 12 isn't a flaming guantlett of death in terms of schedule - but it ain't the PAC10 or ACC either.

It believe it's quite a challenge.

True the politics of the UT job are demanding but they said this morning... "bob stoops isn't that good at the politics... but 7 conference championships makes you overlook things like that" basically saying in an underhanded way.. if you win a bunch of trophies for the case... then other parts are overlooked.

in a way this reminds me of the demise of cooper. coop put together 4 straight 10 or 11 win seasons and 5 in a 6 year span. he had probably what was actually the best team in the country in 1998, should have been in the bcs game, then 6-6, 8-4, gonzo...

Good point. Could be an interesting demise, or the 2010 season could be a blip on an otherwise stellar record. 2011 should prove to be interesting for UT.

BevoTV was my first thought too. That crap will be stillborn if they don't resurrect this program fast. People in Austin have FAR too many other enjoyable things to do than watch a TV network showcasing a Randy Shannon coached team.

Are people really talking about Randy Shannon taking over the program or just as a coordinator? I have a hard time seeing Texas hiring Shannon as the head coach after his failure at The U.

I do too. I'm just "piling on" based upon suggestions from others. It would seem to be a really poor decision, but some have suggested it. Seems really odd to me even if Shannon had done better...to bring some new guy in who hasn't been part of the culture and immediately say he's the heir-apparent. Won't believe it till I see it, but if it DOES happen, I think UT would go into the tank for a while.

Per Geoff Ketchum (Orangebloods owner) twitter

Texas fans need to give Teryl Austin a chance. I like that he's not part of the Mack establishment.

They hired the DC from Florida... uhm... was Florida's defense that good last year.... this smacks of ego and not wanting anyone else but Mack being the face of the program.

After the whole "fuck you" that Tejas threw at What Was Left Of The Big 12, I was glad that we weren't successful getting them to our conference. They seemed just too arrogant and greedy to want them around.

Then I became fully familiar with THujone and the rest of ShaggyBevo and realized this is the most gonzo and intellectually warped fan base in the nation. And realized that not having them in the Big Ten is a tragedy beyond any words to express it. That arrogance is justified, and then some. :(

Delany, full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes! Get Bevo to the Big Ten posthaste! It would be worth taking Texas A&M and Texas Tech along for the ride to get it done.

Moving on to some bad news for the program as a whole. The word we received is that an influential newspaper will be breaking a story that we?ve been sitting on since back in October. Of course we?ve given you snippets and hinted at the Gloria Allred v. Cleve Bryant fiasco, but it runs a lot deeper and has done more damage to the program than we?ve let on. To give you taste of what?s about to hit, we?ve heard over the last few months that players have been interviewed and surveyed by lawyer types all season and it?s been a distraction. Questions about illegal inducements, escorts, harassment of coeds, etc. have been pointed to players all season in some shape or form by legal eagles, and the effect on the team is obvious.

We haven?t heard that any players have been dragged into the ongoing mess other than initial interviews, but the administration is a different story. And the investigation nor airing of dirty laundry isn?t done by a longshot. It?s not fair to the vast majority of the program because in reality we heard it was just a couple of guys who made really poor decisions. But it could end up being a black stain on a program that?s already sucking wind and licking its wounds from 5-7.

Regardless, it?s going to get ugly. Might want to just take a vacation, we?ll keep you posted on Twitter @Recruitocosm and check back in January.

You have to wonder why Mack didn?t step down after 5-7 and this scandal brewing. Either he?s lost his golden touch or underestimated Bellmont?s ability to handle things quietly, but this could fall back on Mack if it comes to light he overlooked some illicit activities to cover for an old friend.

There?s a reason it looks like Mack Brown has aged 5 years in 2010 alone and this is a big part of it. It has the chance to get Clint Eastwood Gran Torino ugly.

What exactly is the Gloria Allred v. Cleve Bryant fiasco?

apparently there will be a scathing story in the austin american statesman tomorrow about the cleve bryant lawsuit. for those of you not up on that - cleve bryant is mack's right hand man, his heavy hand w/ problem/issues. his job is to handle all the operations side of the team - travel, schedules, ordering towels, whatever. he is the target of a lawsuit filed by a texas angel - the chicks who host recruits on their visits (read: blow them so they go to texas). when the story originally came out it was that cleve was being a creepy old perv and this girl's dad was maybe overreacting a bit w/ the whole gloria allred thing. now it's thought that this may be more in line w/ what killed colorado a couple of years ago and bryant was possibly "encouraging" angels to blow recruits so they would come to texas.
