id like for everybody's boss to have people pay them to come watch them work and boo whenever they fuck up. then have one of them throw a beer at you. how are you going to react?

thought so.

Nah... if people payed to watch me work.. I would want them to come back the next day if I was getting a cut of it.

Regardless of the suspensions... I'm not sure if what everyone got was appropriate or not... but there is no... none... zip... zilch... not the slightest reason for Artest to go up into the stands. (Nor do the fans have any right to be on the court) Now... I'd like to say that "they have security to take care of that situation" [with the cup] but I'm not exactly sure they did have any real security... which I see as more of the reason the situation lasted as long as it did...

Oh- I did think Ben Wallace was going to get at least 10 games... but 6 might be okay too... for those of you that think this is too stiff... just be prepared for your favorite player to get the same if they escalate the situation on the court... this is to send a message.

No one is innocent... not the fans not security... not the players... the Piston's organization... Everyone is going to be very sorry by the time all the dust settles...

every single fan who ran to the entrance of the locker room to dump their beer on the coaches and players should have their heads smashed off the floor. fucking pussies

I agree with that too... but that's what the authorities are for.

nation27....sorry about the bug up my arse....i just dont like artest....he has a long history of selfishly causing trouble....

clarity....absolutely correct....every fan that threw something (the chair) or threw punches should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.....which i believe is already in the works...

i just cant get past the image of the old lady knocked down underneath a huge fight and the father shielding his young daughter.....everyone involved was wrong....

finally....pay me 5.5 million a year and ill spend 82 evenings at six hours a pop and people can line up and throw as many beers at me as they want and i'll sit there and smile the whole time....

I'd like to know why, after all the fighting and beer/chair throwing, did the arena mgmt/security continue to allow all the fans along the rails keep throwing beer and cups on the Pacer players as they entered the tunnel?

They took a heck of alot more than Artest did. It was like a free for all.

If the Union strikes over what happened to Artest, the NBA will never recover, and they won't have the 80 million dollar salaries to buy all their cars, so that won't happen. I'm sure everything will be appealed, but I think they will all stand up, with the possible exception of O'Neal, who may be dropped to 10 games.

vr,

You analogy is fine, except for the fact that dogs work on instinct, people are supposed to have rational thought, of which Artest clearly has none. I stand by the fact that if you start swinging at random in a public place, you will go to jail for assault and be sued, so why should he be any different? And yes, why should the fans either? If you hit someone with something, that's assault...plain and simple. Hopefully, when this is all over, everyone next time will ask themselves "Is it worth it"?

As far as the players go, there's one other thing I have to say...I've heard a lot of whining on TV from Mark Jackson, etc., but not about people throwing things or hitting players. No, he was whining about fans "disrespecting" players, whatever that means, with what they say. George Karl was right: this is a microchosm of a greater societal problem where everytime people think they are being "dissed" they feel the need to physically assault someone...or worse. It happens everywhere, not just at games. This may seem OK at the surface in egregious cases (who hasn't wanted to kick someone's ass before), but "dissed" is pretty open ended, and people are getting more and more sensitive and more and more violent. This action is necessary as far as the NBA is concerned, but the societal problem will be much more difficult to fix. I'm not a wuss, and have been in fights before as has everyone, but the bottom line is there are consequences to actions, and even if Artest's actions were warranted (which they weren't), the consequences are also warranted, just like anyone else.

1. I don't get paid millions of dollars to do my job.

2. Even if I did, if someone heckled me all game, then threw a beer on me and I couldn't control myself and took off after him and punched a bunch of people, I would get FIRED. Not suspended for a year. FIRED.

maybe the pussy who threw the beer at him should have thought about that before he threw it. all the while thinking, he cant come hurt me, ill be a big pussy and hide behind david stern and throw my beer on a guy who just kicked my teams ass.

Actually, he knew that Artest was a complete idiot. Artest has proven that time and time again. And he just saw this idiot try to injure his team's star player. He probably threw the beer thinking (correctly) that Artest deserved it (though it was still wrong to throw it), and that nothing would happen.

As it turns out, the guy who chucked the beer won BIG TIME. Not only did he not get hit, but he also was the guy who ruined the Pacers' season. That guy basically took his team's biggest rival from an NBA Championship contender and the only hurdle to the NBA Finals for his team and made them into a non-playoff team.

did artest get the right guy? doesnt look like it. but if he had, then what would you say?

Same thing. Doesn't matter. Artest was wrong. And you are wrong for defending him.

everyone is speculating about what the players union is going to do next......here's what i would be worried about if i were the nba, the pistons, artest, jackson and oneal....

lawsuits.....you dont think the old-lady that was under the melee has a case?? you dont think the innocent guy in glasses that was attacked (unprovoked) by artest and jackson is entitled to compensation....

my client was innocent during this clash....show me the cash....

The guy who got sucker punched in the face by O'Neal has a hell of a case too.

People got stepped on as Artest and Jackson went into the stands. They all have cases.

Artest, Jackson and O'Neal are going to pay through the nose for their immaturity. Nothing else seems to get through to them, maybe NOW they will get the message.

Mine is still Andrei Kirilenko, followed closely by Steve Nash, LeBron James, Carlos Boozer and Brent Barry. Nevertheless, I'm beginning to think that I should pioneer the Unofficial Ron Artest Fan Club.

Not to mention he'd have been a Buckeye if he could've made the grade...Imagine him on the team with Redd, Penn, Johnson, Brown and Reece!
Are you sure you aren't thinking about Al Harrington? He is/was on the Pacers, and was down to the Bucks, 1 other school, or the NBA before he declared, apparently.

I just saw this John Green guy, the guy in the white hat, the guy that the tape clearly shows threw the cup at Artest that incited the riot in an ABC news interview. His position on the matter is absolutely despicable, and I sincerely hope that he loses both lawsuits. Those of course being the one that we will file against Ron Artest and the one that Ron will file against him. What a piece of shit.
