frustrating but whaddya gonna do? matta can only do so much and if a kid is enamored somewhere else its like beating your head against a brick wall

Tough to see an Ohio kid choosing to go out of state, even if it is Duke. It's not like Matta isn't consistently putting players into the League either.

That is a logical course of action. Kid is a solid shooter and a comparable athlete. Just doesn't have the handle and passing ability of Kennard. Quite frankly, with Harris and possibly Mitchell on board, those skills aren't completely necessary for Ahrens to have right away. Just put the ball in the hoop.

Well, this sucks, but what can you argue with?
Kid picks probably the best program in the country for hoops and academics. To quote Roger Waters "Wish You Were Here." I don't wish him "luck" on the next level (those who have been around here awhile know that I never do) but do hope for this kid to be happy and healthy at Duke.

I can quibble with him picking DU over KY at least. If I were him and I was going out of state, it would've been to KY and certainly not DU. Maybe I just don't see the attraction of DU to a basketball player who has a couple of hoops powers much closer to his hometown (both of which he grew up rooting for) and isn't a douche.

If he was thinking about academics, he did not have to even pick a out-of-state school. There are several good academic programs with good basketball programs in Ohio. Maybe he was afraid all of the backcourt competition at Kentucky because Dook certainly did not shoot the 3 ball very well this year.

What big-time programs are in-state that have an academic reputation similar to Duke?
Duke is more loaded on the wing than either tOSU or UK, so competition wasn't a factor. Plain and simple, he just liked Duke the best. Not sure why that's so hard for people to understand. Liked it best, felt most comfortable there. End of story. People need to put their personal feelings aside about this school or that school. When making a decision like this, you have to be open to ALL options.
And to DZ above, he did not grow up rooting for tOSU. UK was it in that house.
Personally, if my son has the chance to be recruited in a few years and had the opportunity to go to a Duke, or an ND, I couldn't fault him for choosing either of those schools when thinking about the future. I mean, personal feelings aside, why not go to Duke? Play for a legend, tons of support from campus (you are THE ticket), great academics, tons of national exposure, etc. Doesn't sound like that bad of a choice to me...

And to add, Duke shot 40% from 3 this year, which I don't think is that bad. It was the only thing that kept them in the game vs. Mercer.
