LSU Tigers (official thread)

You think LSU, who's recruiting lights out including better than bama, is gonna suddenly drop off the face of the earth, and bama will just go back to greatness with worse recruiting and losing Tua and a shit ton on offense?
Worse recruiting? Per 247, LSU has the #2 class for 2020, with Bama right behind at #3...so good for you there. However, you seem to be forgetting that Alabama has had the #1 recruiting class for eight of the last nine fucking years, including a run of seven straight years, a stretch during which LSU had two #2 classes and two #5 classes. There's a reason why it took you eight years to beat Alabama, and that reason is from The Plains, Ohio ya'll.

You have to admit, QB play at LSU has been spotty, at best, for a long while now. It shouldn't come as a surprise that those of us watching from afar aren't ready to jump on that train just yet based only on Burrow's success.
Spotty is putting it kindly.

Joe deserves a ton of credit, but the scheme (in which he and most elite qbs thrive) was brought to LSU by Brady.
We'll likely never see another Burrow. But we'll be able to recruit elite QBs with this system as our calling card. Caleb Williams comes to mind.

Agree it takes great QB play to beat Bama.
Like Bo Nix, Bo Wallace from Ole Miss (twice).

It has a shit ton to do with system.

I'm very well aware when Alabama began its stretch of dominant recruiting. Following the 2011 season, 1/9/12 to be exact.

LSU has made strides lately and beating bama, while bama goes to the citrus bowl or wherever, is the kinda thing that changes it. Talk to me on 12/21.

Saban is no longer getting Louisiana 5* recruits

Bama has played more than just LSU this year. Calendar year, they have played 3 ranked teams and have given up an average of 46 points.

Dude, Nootch will confirm. I hated the O hire and thought it would be bad going forward. But I have eyes and in fact a pretty good feel for the program and it's direction. We ain't going anywhere.

Joe is the best I've seen in purple and gold, his season is absolutely beyond description. But he was here last season with the same cast. Joe Brady's influence on the offense cannot be denied. If we keep him, we'll see what happens with Myles Brennan. But more importantly, the offensive talent, including at QB, is lining up at coach O's door.
Not Saban's.
LSU has always gotten elite recruits at every position but QB, and it’s shown for years. LSU is doing great with a transfer portal QB from OH. They have had tons of WR talent that OSU would be jealous of, and have done next to nothing with it. And that’s what I envision after Burrow. Just being honest. I’m happy for your success this year, but not sure if it is long term

Fair, remains to be seen. There's myriad reasons why Joe, who was at LSU last year, didn't have the success he had this year. In fact, wasn't on the same planet as this year.
He didn't have the same chemistry with his receivers because he didn't show up until summer. But, anybody who thinks it has nothing to do with scheme is kidding themselves. That scheme isn't graduating.

Like I said, we won't get another Joe. But I assure you recruiting QBs just got a hell of a lot easier for LSU.

You sound exactly like a scUM fan back in 2011 when they finally beat us after a seven-game losing streak (sound familiar?), after which we prompted ran off an eight-game (and counting) winning streak. So my advise is go ahead and enjoy the moment but don't count your chickens be fore the eggs are hatched...

Not sure why we're attacking LSU's future prospects. Of course Burrow's been incredible, but I've watched the same things (much less closely of course) as Fishh has, and it's pretty obvious that they've put in a strong offensive system that will likely be attractive to top QB talent and that they've got a a guy who can develop that talent. I'm sure Day deserves some credit for developing Joe, but the development sure as hell didn't end when the kid transferred and may well have accelerated since then. How long they can keep Brady, I don't know, and whether they can hire a good replacement when he inevitably leaves I don't know, but CCM seems like he's smart enough to try to hire good assistants and let them do their thing. And they're never short on talent. We don't actually have to resent, hate, or discount every single thing in college football that isn't us, at least not until we meet up with them in a few weeks.

We probably didn't think we'd ever get another Haskins, but this Fields kid is pretty damn good and may be better than Haskins after another off season of development. no reason to think LSU won't have very good QBs as long as this system and Brady are in place.

I think you're in a similar spot as Kirby and Georgia.
This kind of success usually leads to a short term recruiting bump. And then it's dependent on how well you capitalize on it whether it really catches or not.
Kirby floundered when he got his shots... and seems like they could sputter out. 1 or 2 good recruiting bumps followed by a poor one, then a rebound from the good recruits may lead to another bumper crop... few are able to seize that off-year momentum and keep it rolling.
Remains to see if O will make it stick.

The only reason why we got Fields is because the transfer stars aligned just right...it wasn't because of our recruiting. Same with LSU getting Burrow.

been going to games for over 30 years now.
prior to tonight, i have never seen/heard:

entire stadium chanting for a Heisman
a QB get a curtain call on his last snap at home
any player come back out of the locker room to greet students after a game

I was kinda pissed that coach O didn't give him one more series to throw the record-breaking 45th TD, but then I remembered next week.
