LSU Tigers (official thread)

What does the short list look like?

Dabo
Jimbo
Gruden
Cowher
Fickel
Belichek
Franklin
Saban

As ridiculous as it sounds, apparently Jimbo could actually be a possibility....

LSU football coaching search: Top candidates to replace Ed Orgeron

LSU athletics director Scott Woodward built a reputation for hiring big-name coaches in previous stops at Texas A&M and Washington. He lured Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M away from Florida State and talked Chris Petersen into leaving Boise State for Washington.

At LSU, Woodward was able to hire women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey, a three-time national champion, from Baylor and baseball coach Jay Johnson from Arizona.

Woodward’s friendship with Fisher dates back to their time at LSU in the early 2000s. Fisher's massive contract extension will make him tough to attain, but coaches are constantly looking to leverage their success into improvements at their current jobs or new destinations.

Entire article: https://www.theadvertiser.com/story...sher-urban-meyer-ed-orgeron-fired/8434967002/

Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M coach: An extension signed before the season with the Aggies is fully guaranteed at an average of $9.5 million, but Woodward is close to Fisher who wouldn't owe Texas A&M a dime if he left on his own volition. Aggies won't want to hear this, but LSU is a better job, and Fisher has ties there having won a national championship under Nick Saban in 2003. This may well be Fisher's job to turn down, but that doesn't mean he'll take it.

FWIW, I think LSU's top choices Fisher, Franklin, and Fickell will decide to stay where they are currently at, and this guy has a good shot at the LSU job: Bill O'Brien

Reading through people's posts on social media it seems they want a cajun and are pissed about O being replaced. Having lived their as a dirty Yankee I believe this is how a significant number of LSU fans truly think. It wasn't their OC and a damn Yankee QB that saved them 2 years ago.

He had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.

Not that he needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
Reminds me of the campaign trail, 1972.

They don't consider him a Yankee QB...

i can assure you the segment of the fanbase mentioned above is extremely small.

everyone with even a fraction of a functioning brain cell knows that Ed was the most easily replaceable piece of that championship puzzle.

The moronic juggalo board is saying that they're not worried about the LSU job because there are no Catholic schools in Louisiana. Have these imbeciles ever been outside of SW Ohio?

The counties are literally called "parishes," but yeah....not Catholic presence and culture at all.

Catholic High in Baton Rouge is the top school in LA... 3 of the top 5 HS football programs in LA are catholic schools. But yeah, the Juggalo base is pretty clueless to football outside of Cincy. But I doubt Fick leaves for LSU, but his name will come up for every top position. But he may look hard at MSU if Tucker leaves for LSU. They're in a different spot now than a few years ago before Tucker took over.

Same thing happened with Kelly. Everyone knew he'd move on sooner than later, but people acted shocked when it happened. If UC breaks through to being a contender once again, it's going to be basketball, not football, and the fanbase doesn't understand that. They don't have the recruiting or budget to threaten CFP teams every year.

Not sure if Fickell is interested in LSU, but if so, he's gone. It doesn't fucking matter what the catholic school situation is when you're looking at $80 million contracts, have a chance at top recruiting classes, and get shots at Bama and Georgia every year.

Does Myrtle Beach and Destin count? If not, then most have never been anywhere outside those 3 areas.

"But 95% of the information being put out right now is from agents. So as good as they are on the front end to get some information, on the back end, it's pure self-preservation mode. It's pure be able to go to my current guy's boss and say, 'Hey, we talked to LSU. Give him a raise,' mode. That's what's happening right now. So just pump the brakes a little bit on all the information and speculation. This is not going to be an overnight deal. But it will unfold over time. But I do want to say this — this is viewed as one of the best football jobs in America, meaning, don't just cast your gaze over college football. Don't be surprised if you start to hear some NFL names involved in this as well. I'm not speculating specifically about that. That's something that's been general that I've been told."

Just sayin': There are a lot of reported possible coaching candidates for the LSU that are not seriously interested in the LSU job, they just want to leverage it into a raise/contract extension at than current school.

I was listening the Bomani Jones podcast earlier, and Coach O was definitely a WILD BOY! Pulling up to a gas station, sees an attractive woman with workout clothes, asks her if she wants to “work out” with him. She tells him she’s married AND pregnant… He says, SO! :yow2:
It ended up being the wife of a prominent LSU official…

They gave a man who was already unhinged, millions of dollars after that NC. And he promptly got divorced and thought he was in college again and lost his damn mind, and had the craziest mid life crisis’ out.
