Los Angeles Lakers (17x NBA Champions)

Maybe, but I also don't think that now is the time to peak. Plenty of games left, they have had a helluva season so far, and coming in to tonight had the 8 game cushion in the West, which can mess up a team's head maybe a little bit. But they have plenty of time to work out a new rotation, to get the important legs fresh for when it really matters.

Of course, I didn't get to see the game, as usual, but I think now is an okay time to get a little cold, if it's going to happen at some point. Leaves enough time to work back out of it.

We don't need to own the best record in the NBA, although it would be nice. Those three beasts in the East can beat each other up, we will only have to deal with one of them, if we are consistent enough to get there, of course.

Good game. You kicked our asses in LA. We got a little revenge tonight.

I hope Rudy is ok, felt like the energy was just sucked out of the whole game when that happened.

Someone needs to tell the rest of the NBA that chanting "BEAT LA" is reserved for Boston, just like "BOSTON SUCKS" is reserved for the Lakers, it's getting old hearing it otherwise :p

I remember seeing Beat LA signs all over Portland back in the Sabonis-Shaq days. It was a good rivalry. Looks like it's starting to get back to that now that we've become respectable.

I didn't see the Rudy injury. Had work tonight and only got back in time to see the last two thirds of the 4th quarter. The announcer made it seem like it wasn't too serious. Hope he's ok too.

I disagree, I think the Lakers need home court advantage, I think they need to come in with the lead and ride that. This team has a couple champs, but otherwise, you have a lot of guys who haven't won a damned thing and there's not a lot of change from last year.

If they face Boston in the finals, and Boston has home court over the Lakers, Boston wins again. The Lakers are tougher this year, but Boston, at home, can bully the Lakers are the fan energy is such that they won't get a call, where Kobe, Odom, and Gasol will get a foul every time. It's the way the NBA works.

Not trying to be negative, I am just calling it, the Lakers are on a mission, they need to right the ship, get back on track and go 2-0 in this Texas two-step.

I'm jealous you get to see all these damned Lakers games. I agree on Ariza's foul, I didn't think there was any intent to harm there. I feel like flagrant one was still acceptable just because he did go down so hard and Ariza did swing his arm pretty hard for the ball, but flagrant two was ridiculous and I am very glad to see him not get suspended for another game.

I am pretty sure they made the call to assure there would be no retaliation on either side. We weren't going to win that game anyways, I hate playing in Portland (oh, good news, we have 1 more game there :() Lamar shouldn't have left the bench, but tonight Powell did well, hopefully Phil let's him play a little more while Lamar gets his legs back.

Good to see the Lakers show up tonight, sweeping Houston, Kobe took over in the 4th quarter, but who impressed me was Powell.

Nice to get to watch them again. I was texting with my uncle in the 1st when it was 18 points, and we agreed that the Lakers would either win by 25 or else fight for their life at the end. Nice to see the good guys hang on.

Now, on to the the Cavs-Suns for me.. I have a 6 game winning $treak going, and I picked Cleveland.. which probably means look for Phoenix to dominate tonight :!

LAKERS: Lakers Gameday | 03/12/09 | Lakers 102, Spurs 95

Byrant scores 23 as Lakers clinch playoff berth

SAN ANTONIO(AP) The Los Angeles Lakers are the West's first team in the playoffs. Kobe Bryant made sure of it.
Bryant scored the last of his 23 points on a 3-pointer with 1:46 left, and the Lakers secured a postseason spot with a 100-95 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night.
The Spurs have been the West's No. 2 team most of the season, and Los Angeles validated that pecking order. The Lakers also wrapped up the Pacific Division in the final rematch this season of the 2008 Western Conference finals.
Tony Parker and Michael Finley led San Antonio with 25 points apiece. Drew Gooden made his Spurs debut after being signed a week ago, but played just 3\ minutes, scoring two points and grabbing four rebounds.
Lamar Odom had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Los Angeles in his return from a one-game suspension for leaving the bench during an altercation in Monday's loss to Portland.
One night after ending Houston's 12-game home winning streak, the Lakers wrapped up their road swing by bringing San Antonio's three-game winning string to a halt.
The loss cut San Antonio's lead over the Rockets in the Southwest Division to two games, with the Spurs heading to Houston on Saturday. The Rockets play at Charlotte on Friday.
Tim Duncan had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Spurs.
Trevor Ariza, who joined the Lakers' starting lineup this week, scored 10 points. Derek Fisher also added 10.
If it was a West playoff preview, it didn't feel that way until the fourth quarter. Los Angeles led by as much as 18 in the first quarter, but San Antonio chipped away, cutting the lead to 95-93 on a 3-pointer from Parker with 2:18 left.
Then Bryant, with rookie George Hill closely guarding him, drained a 3-pointer that quashed any hopes of a Spurs comeback. As Bryant left the court, several dozen fans chanted "M-V-P! M-V-P!'' in what is usually hostile territory for the Lakers.
