Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Sweet. It will be like a fantasy football weekly lineup. Just grab a transfer who you think will help you win the next week, then repeat every week;-)
They left out the part about transfer windows 45 days after cfp selection and may 1-15. Which I think would be a good change. Less people getting pissy with their role one week and saying fuck it I'm out. Requires them to think about it. Sounds like they don't have to choose in those windows but they do have to put their name in then also it said for the following school year as eligibility.

Bad decision. Sounds a little like the NBA---most rational people support "player empowerment" in theory but there needs to be some care for the health of the sport too. It can't just be our players do whatever they want, whenever they want with no repercussions or accountability.

Why not? The coaches do it…

And it can be argued that the NBA has more talent than ever before and actually has more parity than ever in the past. I’m sure some of the powers will bitch over this, but those same teams don’t complain when they win their conference every year, or are in the NC race every year

The NBA has also lost half their viewership in the past decade.

Every sport has lost viewership except the NFL…

Fair enough. My point is I just think college football has to be careful. They have maybe the most loyal fans of any sport now. Ohio State will be fine no matter what, like Alabama etc. But if you are, say, a Pitt fan. Losing Addison is a huge bummer. And that is probably going to happen more and more. I could see fans of those type of teams losing interest in the next decade.

Oh, I agree with that sentiment. But honestly I've been saying that for years with the introduction of the CFP. Since the CFP was started its been essentially the same 4-5 teams in it every single year. Other fan bases are starting to get tired of that. The fan bases for teams like Pitt, Indiana, Arizona, UCF, etc at this point realize they don't have a chance in hell of ever even sniffing the CFP. They may have a slightly SLIGHTLY better chance with expansion, but even still I can bet the same teams will win. Just like with March Madness. Every year peoe go crazy for upsets, yet the same teams win CBB yearly as well. It's cute to see them win on the first weekend, and then they get stomped by the big boys. And the gap in CFB us even worse! NIL may help some, but it ain't going to close gaps that were already wide, especially since the big boy teams also have NIL as well. And guess what? 2023 OSU, Bama, Clemson, UGA will be 4 of the teams to beat. Just like EVERY year...

The Portal throws recruiting out the window.....USC had eight (8!) recruits, but loaded up with some pretty huge gets from the portal. Why buy the recruiting mags? Used to buy 6-8, and read 'em regularly. (helping Ryan et al prepare for next game). Now, recruiting is still OK, but when a MSU is 50ish, and then fields a team that goes 11-2, well that shows how well they mine the transfer portal, and dangle NIL money. Agree Pnuts, tOSU will still be stout, as will the other bluest bloods, and will cherry pick to fill certain weaknesses. It does take a bit of the sweetness out of the game for me....

The super teams really did kill the NBA for me. It's no fun watching something when you already know the outcome pretty much before the season even starts.

You could argue that it's always the same few teams in college football, there is a element of surprise to it still though, and upsets do happen.

There's enough loyalty amongst CFB fanbases/alumni though that I doubt viewership would ever completely hit rock bottom.

In the 4 team playoff most of the games have been blowouts. The difference between #1 and #4 is a good amount of time is still a pretty big gap. Imagine a 8 team playoff where you stack 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6. There'd be more games and more teams, but just more blowouts in the grand scheme. More teams get "in the show" but it ends up being a bore fest.

Would also suggest that #1 drawing #4 gets helped when #2 and #3 kick the shit out of each other as per the Bucks and Clemson.
