Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Georgia sophomore OL enters transfer portal
https://ugawire.usatoday.com/2022/0...homore-cameron-kinnie-enters-transfer-portal/
Georgia Bulldogs redshirt sophomore offensive guard Cameron Kinnie has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Kinnie is a former three-star recruit out of Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

Kinnie redshirted during the 2020 season and did not appear in a contest during the 2021 season. Kinnie primarily played on Georgia’s scout team. He was projected as a depth player again in 2022.

Cameron Kinnie is likely looking for more playing time at his transfer destination. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound offensive lineman has the talent to play at a major college football program.

Kinnie singed with Georgia as a defensive tackle recruit in the class of 2020. He changed positions to the offensive line, but never saw the field. Georgia defensive tackles Nazir Stackhouse, Jalen Carter, and Warren Brinson were also members of the class of 2020.

College football coaches association to propose transfer windows

College football coaches will propose transfer windows in the late fall and spring to help with roster management around the transfer portal.

Todd Berry, executive director of the American Football Coaches Association, said Tuesday his group would like two transfer windows for players to enter their names in the portal: one from the final Sunday in November until the early signing date in mid-December, and another from April 15 to May 1. Both windows would coincide with contact periods in recruiting. Players wouldn't be required to transfer, only to enter the portal during designated time periods.

The NCAA's transfer portal, which debuted in October 2018, currently doesn't have specific windows for movement. The only deadline is that players must notify schools that they are entering the portal by May 1 of each academic year. Berry noted that AFCA members proposed transfer windows before the portal went into effect, but they have not been adopted.

"We knew there were going to be very few controls over it, but at least if we had a window, then the student-athletes would be able to go, 'Is this a good decision? Because here's my competition. Now I know what the other competition is because we're all in the window at the same time,'" Berry told ESPN. "It might change some perspectives. They need to be able to make educated decisions.

Berry said the current portal setup without windows has created "turmoil" and "chaos" with roster management. He thinks the coaches' proposal likely will go to the NCAA Division I football oversight committee and the Division I transformation committee. A football oversight committee source told ESPN that transfer windows are a "foregone conclusion."

This is definitely a good idea.

Good idea for who? Coaches wanting to put restrictions in place? The "gives them time to make an educated decision" line is some serious bullshit.

It's good for coaches to give them time to manage the roster or maybe talk a kid out of it. What benefit does the kid see from having to wait for a window to open up?

These coaches are something man. Jesus.

You don’t think they’ll soon be putting in restrictions on when the coaches can switch jobs?

College football transfer portal: Every Power 5 team's most important addition

Ohio State — Tanner McCalister, DB: McCalister is a perfect fit for the Buckeyes for several reasons. First and foremost, Ohio State really needed at least one quality defensive back to take its secondary to another level after a below average 2021 showing. To fix that defense, the Buckeyes hired stud coordinator Jim Knowles away from Oklahoma State. McCalister followed, so he already has plenty of comfortability — and verified production — in the Buckeyes’ new defensive scheme.

Demarkcus Bowman: Florida RB transfer commits to UCF football

Bowman, a former five-star prospect, began his career at Clemson and ranked among the highest-rated transfers in college football ahead of the 2021 season when he landed at Florida. Bowman ranked as the No. 7 overall transfer in 247Sports' College Football Transfer Portal Top 150 last summer, and he was regarded in the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings and as a top-five running back within the 2020 cycle.

Bowman, much like his time at Clemson, saw an impact that was minimal with the Gators. He only received 14 carries in a Florida uniform, totaling 81 yards. Bowman recorded stats in just four games during the 2021 campaign, that ultimately ended with the Gators going 6-7 and firing coach Dan Mullen just a year after Mullen led Florida to an SEC Championship Game appearance. Billy Napier was tabbed as Mullen's replacement.

Prior to Florida, Bowman only carried the ball nine times in his lone season at Clemson — a stay that lasted two games before he entered the transfer portal, to be exact — in which he gained a total of 32 yards. But he was a five-star running back in the 247Sports Composite for a reason. The halfback is a true home-run hitter with 10.69-second 100-meter speed and has proven production (11.8 yards per carry as a high school junior) against high-level competition at Lakeland (Fla.) High.
