Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

This is just the start. Wait until NIL heats up.

There is no mechanism in place to assure NIL operates as intended. There is no mechanism to ensure "tampering " is not rampant.

There have always been boosters and hundred dollar handshakes. But now CFB is up for sale completely. Coaches with hundred million dollar contracts? Million dollars for a kid before he takes a snap?

Once a Buckeye always a Buckeye my ass.

Nothing but business now - at least for the big dogs.

Look at the money and how unequal it is being distributed among players. Litigation can't be far behind. Too many smart lawyers to let that continue.

I hate it. But I am too old to let it go.
Yeah who knows if some handler passed Ewer's a message if he leaves Ohio State for texas NIL will make it worth their while. Tampering is going to be a fucking mess with any highly toutd frosh that doesn't get the play time they were expecting.

or even gets the playing time but gets bigger $$$ flashed in front of their faces. all college athletes are basically free-agents from now on, just going to the highest bidder. and maybe they've earned it, but it's going to be a mess for the ncaa to keep track of and try and introduce some semblance of order.

I expect to be a complete CF for 5-10 years then settle down into some semblance of balance whatever that maybe

The use of name, image, or likeness should be linked to the same with some provision for the duration of that use over a prescribed period of time. In the case of Ewers, I am far away but I can't imagine that his appearance in advertising could possibly have been substantial enough to warrant what he apparently was paid. Universities are going to learn very quickly to advise sponsors of NIL agreements to ensure that temporal commitments are specified, with clawback arrangements if they are not. Sponsors are going to look at these things with much more scrutiny after this year.

Absolutely agree with this. The advertisers will learn a lot of lessons about NIL this year. It may take a few years to fine tune their agreements with athletes, but they will.

Apparently, Ricart Ford had that foresight already. Ewers monster truck was a lease, and voidable if he transferred.

The businesses aren’t nearly as stupid as people think they are. The IRS has mechanisms in place since forever that speak to “fair market value” of services rendered.

It will all be fine.
