Look Who's Transferring Now (The Portal)

Stick with college football then. Coaches have contracts and tamper with them all the livelong day.

Why is it "better for the sport" that the coaches can run a program anyway they want to and a kid can't leave ("there should be restrictions on transfers") but a coach can leave anytime he gets a better offer and pays no price for running a program that kids don't want to be a part of?

I say it's bringing the real world into college football by putting the onus on coaches to run a program that people want to be a part of if that be money, culture or any mix of the two.

Because Jax no one wants to live in a world. Where Tom Brady can say fuck this shit in Tampa and join the 49ers the next day. If I'm sufficiently talented and in demand I can do that in 9-5 all day. But sports that makes it really hard for any fans to exist but of the "good" teams that stay good cause self perpetuation. Will some people stay in a lesser situation cause if loyalty. Yes like in the work world but mostly the power concentrates in the winners.

I'm not saying you can't pay the kids. But the only way the sporting model works with fans is with contracts that can't be broken at a drop of a hat.

Now how you make that work with a collegiate model I don't know. But I know unlimited transfers and the present state of NIL ain't it bro.

Coaches have contracts, buyouts, and teams have a limited budget.. NIL as it exists now is a problem. Not because them earning money is a problem. But the fact you can literally throw money at someone and have them quit and transfer with no consequences

We were one of his finalists IIRC. Would have to go back and see his thread.
Brief synopsis, we got in on him very early. Led for him for most of his recruitment, then when his stars went up and he started getting more attention, he started playing games. And at the 11th hour, Day basically asked where OSU stood, Goodwin wanted to still play games, Day and Stud stopped recruiting him and looked elsewhere. I doubt OSU even pays attention to him

Hey, I'm firmly with you, in being able to let the kids get what teams are willing to give them. I'm just stating that higher powers are going to want to reign in these new rules and place some restrictions on NIL and the Portal. I've always thought that it was unfair that coaches can leave as they please, and fans don't care about that. Front offices/college admin have almost brainwashed fans into being on their side, though in their normal lives they've been taught to question their supervisors. It's a crazy hypocrisy that has always existed in sports.
The hypocrisy of fans is why my father never was a fan of football teams. Though he briefly played in the NFL, he hated how fans treated players at every level, yet worshipped coaches.

I'm always going to say if you don't want your guy to leave, pay him more, treat him better/fix whatever it is making him want to leave. Tie his NIL money to staying with you for instance.

I agree that the NIL and portal situations will need to change somehow, I just hate that people always default to restricting the kids/players. Make the schools and coaches adapt.

Oh I get it. Just as much as I joke about getting a new secondary in the portal before the playoffs.

I don't want to live in a world where Bama, Georgia and Ohio state can make the playoffs.

And go oh what are our deficiencies. Henderson is hurt go see if you can entice Bijon Robinson to replace him. Corners go get some projected first round draft picks as a rental for the playoffs before they go pro etc

Wow, that was a short stay in Lexington...:roll2:
And no, I do not want OSU to pursue a kid that can't even stay at a school more than 1 year

From memory, I remember Kiyaunta's recruitment ended on bad terms. If there was a bridge, I'm pretty sure it got burned. I'd be surprised if we pursued him, but stranger things have happened...

Damn... State of Michigan just loves them some transfers.

That's 2 edge guys and 1 OL for Michigan. Portal is probably pretty comfortable for Jim Harbaugh considering his NFL past.

Going to be a very experienced ttun team at this point.

Hopefully Ryan can match here..
It's how Harbaugh and the Iowa's of the world will maintain their success in the new world as opposed to having a good team once every 4 years

Personally I think TTUN is handling this correctly.

Recruit mainly but plug holes with the portal.

We'd be side to copy them.
OSU is, we just don't have as many holes as fans think. And Day isn't going to just sign guys that he doesn't think will fit the program.
Also, bare in mind, that the Portal window after the season may have even better talent. And that's if Day sees holes that can't be filled with talent already on the roster. OSU has averaged top 5-10 recruiting classes, and scUM's classes are usually in the teens or 20s, so makes sense why they're hitting the Portal so hard.
