Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

Illinois freshman guard Skyy Clark is planning to enter the transfer portal, according to a report Sunday by Joe Tipton. Clark, a former five-star recruit in the Class of 2022, averaged 7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 13 games for the Fighting Illini.

Clark left the team in early January, right after being taken out of the starting lineup, citing personal reasons.

"I want to start by saying that I love the University of Illinois, my coaching staff, my teammates and the broader (Illinois) community," Clark wrote Jan. 6 on social media. "I made friendships in these few short months that I will keep with me for the rest of my life. This decision has nothing to do with basketball, but it does have everything to do with prioritizing myself and my family's well-being.

"For personal reasons, I need to step away from basketball for the time being - putting myself and my family first. I appreciate everyone's support during this time, but please respect not only my privacy but the privacy of all those around me."

ORU star Max Abmas is in the transfer portal. Pay attention, Holtmann - this is what a good transfer looks like.

“I think the end goal is, not just to get all this NIL money, the end goal for me is to play professionally in the NBA for as long as I can play,” Abmas said. “Just understanding that, and understanding that the grass isn’t necessarily greener on the other side, and understanding what I had here at Oral Roberts and the relationship that I’ve built over the last few years.”

A big reason why Abmas chose to stay at Oral Roberts for four seasons was the relationship forged with coach Paul Mills. But Mills was named the Wichita State coach on March 21. Less than two weeks later, Abmas, like Mills, will leave Oral Roberts.

Immediately, Abmas (pronounced ace-miss) becomes a top 3 name in the portal, if not the No. 1 commodity teams will be scrambling for this offseason. A few schools immediately come to mind as top contenders: Wichita State, North Carolina and Baylor/Texas.

Wichita State seems like it stands out, but remains a top choice because of its head coach. The Shockers recently hired former Oral Roberts HC Paul Mills to the same position in Wichita, and it would make sense for Abmas to play his final season with his 4-year college HC.

North Carolina and Texas are interesting because of UNC’s need for a spark and Baylor’ proximity to his hometown of Rockwall, Texas, a suburb of Dallas 75 miles north of Waco. Texas, another 75 miles down I-35, is another Lone Star State option.

Well, he did score 29 vs Ohio State 2 years ago. He would probably be an adequate replacement for Sensabaugh...

FWIW...

Washington guard Keyon Menifield Jr. entered the NCAA transfer portal last Tuesday but is not ruling out a return to the Huskies, who are among his top six teams. He took to Twitter Sunday and posted a graphic that included the following teams in his list cut — Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville, Ohio State and Tennessee.

I'm not holding my breath on whomever Holtmann gets from the transfer portal. It's always been guys who have clear flaws and don't play good all-around basketball. If they're good on offense, they're bad on D & vice-versa. There's no real upside to experience if these guys are unreliable & are clogging up the roster while limiting the upside of the team. It's a negative because it's keeping you from adding any late-blooming prep prospects who might have higher potential, and giving you a poor excuse to stop looking for more high school talent. Holtmann needs to listen to TLC and stop going after the scrubs.

We’ll see what Jamison Battle can bring. It is interesting the Bucks were 2nd-to-last in the Big Ten and still managed to get a player from a team worse than them.

But Ohio State’s program is way ahead of Minny, so hopefully he balls out in this change of scenery.

His profile this past season is a finesse forward who's a volume shooter. I'm not expecting an all-conference season, but Justice Sueing wasn't all-B1G, either. All that being said, I do wonder why Battle averaged 5 ppg less this season than the year before. Minutes were similar. I see the rebounds going down due to adding Garcia. But this was a Gopher team with only 2 double-digit scorers, and he was one of them. I'm not sure why his scoring went down by such a large amount. Their team got worse, they turned to him as a shooter and he was less efficient and scored less than he did the season before. Maybe I'm missing something.

I read somewhere that he was hampered by injuries this past season.

Wow. That’s a surprising one. Thought he was featured pretty well at Creighton so I’m not sure where else above that he wants.

That is an elite and big time PG. Prize of the portal.

His brother is having an outstanding rookie season for the Pacers.

His older brother played at Florida before finishing at Gonzaga. I wonder if that's where he's headed.

Some speculation is he might go to Arizona since the coach there coached his brother, plus they just had a guard transfer away. The portal taketh away, the portal giveth. I'm sure whichever team gets him will be happy.
