Look Who's Transferring Now (The Basketball Portal)

Oregon basketball transfer and former five-star recruit Kel'el Ware canceled his Alabama visit, according to Peegs.com's Jeff Rabjohns. Ware also received a 247Sports Transfer Crystal Ball prediction from Chad Lykins of The Devils Den to end up at Indiana after taking an official visit there this week.

Iowa basketball coach Fran McCaffery explains how agents are 'shopping mid-major players' in transfer portal

Iowa head men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery said in a recent interview that there is widespread tampering going on in the sport and that agents are encouraging players to enter the transfer portal. It might be too late for them to fix the problem, McCaffery explained.

“The thing that I think is really bad is there are agents actually shopping mid-major players,” McCaffery said, via HawkeyeInsider. “Before they go into the portal, convincing them to go into the portal and that’s disgraceful and that should’ve been seen by the NCAA. … They’re trying to fix it and they are not going to be able to.”

The same issue has been going on throughout college athletics in different sports with the transfer portal. After college football's Early Signing Day in December, Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said an "utterly ridiculous" amount of NIL-influenced tampering is occurring with offenders facing virtually zero ramifications.

"I knew eventually there would be pay-for-play, but I did not know it would be NIL like it came about," Fisher said. "The problem with all of it is that there is no consistency and rules. And then when you get into the (transfer portal), there is so much tampering going on. It is utterly ridiculous. It is a joke. It's an absolute joke. We are only in college football. I heard (UTSA coach Jeff Traylor) the other day say that everybody was robbing their players and taking their players. ... I mean, this is not good for college football, as far as how it's done. I'm not saying being able to transfer is bad. I'm not saying paying players bad. But the current status of the rules and the way it's done and how it's done? It's ridiculous. It's here. Everybody has the same issues and same problems. … The ones that keep pushing the rules and breaking them will be rewarded and the others have to keep fighting, scratching and clawing to do things the right way. You can do it that way and win. Always have."

Just sayin': You know tampering is going on and the NCAA is just turning a "blind eye".

Well the portal is like true player free agency now, and i think that's good for the players. The mids lose stars, but get plenty of transfers as well, some from HM schools and others from the multiple tiers of lower levels. I see no logic behind complaining on behalf of mids in particular. FAU had some key transfers, including ones from Texas Tech, UConn & Minnesota - it's always give and take. You win some, you lose some - that's recruiting.

Going to be tough for schools like Creighton to compete with this unless the kid really loves Omaha, Nebraska.

West Virginia lands Syracuse transfer Jesse Edwards

Former Syracuse center Jesse Edwards, ESPN's No. 3 player in the NCAA transfer portal, has committed to play at West Virginia next season, he told ESPN on Sunday.

"I felt it was time for a fresh start," Edwards said. "I needed a new environment to challenge myself in and I think West Virginia is just that. I've met some great people on my visit here and the campus looks amazing. This team could be something special."

The 6-foot-11 Edwards averaged 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.3 steals in 32.6 minutes for Syracuse last season, being named All-ACC Third Team and to the All-ACC Defensive Team as a redshirt junior.

He has one year of eligibility remaining for the Mountaineers with 95 collegiate games under his belt, making him one of the most battle-tested and proven commodities in the NCAA transfer portal. ESPN's Jeff Borzello slotted him third in his NCAA transfer portal rankings.

As somebody who always considered myself much more a fan of college sports than pro, it's a shame what's happening to college sports. Yes, I know it's great for the kids and I guess that's what really matters. But, me, again as a fan...well, I find myself much less interested than I used to be.

I understand and sympathize. But I feel entirely the opposite way.

If it's good for the athletes, I'm for it. Period.
