U.S. women's volleyball team isn't messing around. They just won the first set in the gold medal match against Brazil, 25-11.

If Brazil ever plans on winning a gold in this competition, it's going to be without Marcelo playing at LB. Too many times he's caught too far forward, and teams counter attack down the right side of the field where Marcelo has left open. It cost Real Madrid a shot at the CL Final, it cost Brazil a gold medal in today's game.

Sure, having an unproven goalkeeper, Gabriel, in goal is tough, but with a back line as talented as Brazil's is, there should be no excuse for losing to a Mexican U-23 squad without the likes of Chicharito and Gio dos Santos.

Overall, was a very entertaining match. The amount of handballs that went uncalled were a bit alarming though, IMO. At least 2 handballs on Mexico inside the penalty area, and one more on the open shot on goal Fabian created for himself on the open goal bicycle kick fail.

Well so much for that. The Brazilians just smashed us 25-17 in the 2nd set & then beat us easily 25-20 in the 3rd set. Once they got the momentum in the 2nd set, they never looked back as they were ahead for the entirety of both sets.

After winning the first set 25-11 no less. Brazil gave them a harsh lesson in how to play the game.

Brigetta Barrett is guaranteed at least a medal in the women's high jump, although the Russian #1 has only missed one jump all day & will be tough the beat.

Brigetta Barrett takes silver in the women's high jump. There was no stopping Anna Chicherova of Russia, she missed ONE jump on the day.

Very impressive day by Russia so far. Six golds, four silvers and three bronze.
