London Olympics: "We're pretty much ready..."

Great finish to the 10K. Brit--USA in a 1-2 finish.

Rupp finishing second... amazing. He's the first American to place in the 10K since Billy Mills won it in '64. Congrats Rupp!

That 10k race is crazy. They run like a 4:20 mile...that's crazy (yeah I know marathoners etc).

It was cool to see the finish. Great for the GB, but for Rupp, only the 3rd American to medal in the event

i wonder how many foreign olympic athletes train in the united states.

buckeyebri;2189788; said:
I would guess it is a very high percentage especially when it comes to how many play or played sports as U.S. Colleges and Universities.

FWIW, Ohio State had at least 8:

I saw a female Chinese Discus thrower last night that looked like Lou Ferrigno back when he played the hulk. Even the same hair. As you would have guessed she threw the discus a new world record of 158km and then Hulk smashed the other contestants.

Comments from a Cleveland Plain Dealer article about Bridget Franek, a local athlete who made the Finals in the Steeplechase:

By saying she "ran" or "run" the race implies she is the horse running the track. She rode, not ran....

Bridget's mother would not like you calling her a horse. She ran the race....

The steeplechase is a running race, not a horse race. Sheesh

We're actually in London, watched the 10k from our brit friends' house. Everyone was going crazy on that last lap after being so prepared to watch the Ethiopians pull away. Loved seeing Rupp run him down like that! :)

Sorry, I just can't get over this... what an amazing last lap by Rupp and Farah, especially Rupp's last 200 meters to pass a few runners. Their celebration together at the end was great too, they both have expressions of shock on their face. I guess that's what happens when training partners to 1-2 at the Olympics. :) Last lap starts around 3:05 in the link below.

Not that I have your attention:wink: I don't understand why Merritt did not give his Olympic spot to another 400 guy because his hamstring was still pretty bad about 2 weeks ago according to the announcers and he really didn't even get up to full speed in his heat. He pulled up after running only about 100 m and you are correct that this really hurts the United States chances at the 4 x 400 relay gold.
