London Olympics: "We're pretty much ready..."

What an absolute joke.... How much longer does NBC have the contract for the Olympics? They've been pretty awful.

These are the people who won the rights to the World Cup. :(

I know we all hate ESPN they are horrible with anything dealing with news, commentary, hype or any of the stuff that happens on the periphery of an event. For live events though, they are unmatched for production value and in leveraging their various platforms to make sure as many people as possible can watch it live and in high quality. They also trust their audience enough to show an event in non-prime hours.

Actually, the funny thing is... I don't mind soccer games that are aired on NBC Sports Network. Last weekends game between Philly and New England was really well done, and the last couple of Crew games on NBC SN haven't been bad either.

agreed, as much as I hate ESPn when it comes with news and opinions, they are the best at showing live events, I love when they have tennis slams because they'll show them live at 3:30 am during aussie open, and guess what, they replay later for those who missed it

We'll see how they handle games that aren't being held in the US. We'll see how they handle games they want to put on network rather than cable.

I had read about it earlier in the day of course, but seeing it for the first time... the finish in the men's gymnastics team competition was rotten.

The fact that formal protest process actually includes an exchange of cash is absurd.

Props to ESP!N? WTF??

In NBCs defense, think of the scope and magnitude of the entirety of events at the olympics as opposed to a typical game ESP!N broadcasts. Not only are they numerous, but the different sports have an incredible diversity of type/length of coverage needed to broadcast. Plus, many events are happening simultaneously.

I think NBC does a decent job but certainly has plenty of gaffs.

If they would just show fucking events during Prime Time instead of doing the fucking Ryan Seacrest American Olympic Idol Dancing with the Marginally Recognized bullshit, I likely wouldn't complain much, if at all. They could get 2-3 good ancillary events in per night in the time it takes to put Ryan Foofoo on with his stupid-assed haircut interviewing some coach or family member that no one is going to care about and asking the probing questions like "So, does Ryan Lochte like to, you know, eat and sleep and stuff?"

True, true - but you gotta admit, NBC takes video montages to new heights.

 :p

Mayor of London must think otters are sexy...or is "wet otters" a British idiom with which I am not familiar?

On Sunday night, London's wavy-haired mayor Boris Johnson wrote a column in The Telegraph listing "20 jolly good reasons to feel cheerful about the Games."

No. 19 takes the cake:As I write these words there are semi-naked women playing beach volleyball in the middle of the Horse Guards Parade immortalized by Canaletto. They are glistening like wet otters and the water is plashing off the brims of the spectators' sou'westers. The whole thing is magnificent and bonkers.
