In a way, I feel like Gordon had cursed us with that remark. Ever since he made that comment, we've lost a lot of respect nationally. Remember in 2006, when a one-loss Florida team was considered to not be good enough to even be on the field with us? Now, we go two years without losing and we don't even make it to the National title game!!! Even if we beat MSU, it would have been highly likely that Aubarn with their overrated SUC schedule would have jumped us.

The only team who won as much as we did, and faced as much disrespect was Boise State from 2002-2010. It seems that this declining perception in tOSU greatness had occurred after Gee made his comment about Boise not deserving to be taken seriously for beating up on "the Little Sisters of the Poor."

Don't get me wrong, I think Meyer is a class act and a winner, but 24-0 and no BCS title game has me feeling like we've become Boise. Have we?

I'll be the first to say that Gee 2.0 was a disappointment in many ways, with his continual verbal gaffes being the worst of it. That being said, I think our lack of respect isn't the result of it but rather from a bad three year window of losing marquee games (Florida, LSU, Texas and USC twice) combined with the Big Ten taking a nose dive. The latter being most influential. If we had gone 24-0 with marquee wins against somebody other than Cal and in a conference that hasn't made a habit of going 2-5 in bowl season recently, I think our reputation is back to where it was before the desert.

And remember too that Ohio State has a lingering public image as a choke artist going back to the 1970s when during a twelve year window (68-79) we went 1-6 when we were in a position to win a National Championship in either the Michigan game or Rose Bowl. We followed that up with a decade of irrelevance followed by Cooper's epic shitting of the bed each November and December.

They would be in the BCS title game if they had gone 13-0 this year and last year - when the argument would've been OSU vs ND, who have been getting their asses handed to them in bowl games since the early 90s - they weren't eligible. Auburn wasn't going to jump OSU if they had beaten Sparty. Gee has nothing to do with any of this.

We probably would have been in a BCS title game last year if not for Gene Smith's bad gamble.

Hey there, Bobby... you are aware that the Buckeyes couldn't go bowling last year, right? Pretty ridiculous argument to make that they went 24-0 with no BCS National Championship game when they weren't eligible last year, and they lost this year.

As for "highly likely" it would have been extremely unlikely that Auburn jumped the Buckeyes... That is if you listen to the BCS guru guy who said it would take 76% of the voters changing their minds.

True, but the general consensus when we were in the midst of this run was that we didn't deserve to be in the title game even though we were unbeaten because we "hadn't played anybody." Yet Free Sneaker Rapists had a much easier schedule than us, and no one disrespected them at all.

Would of/ Could of/ Should of, but we weren't.

If you enjoy mediocrity, go ahead, go root for TUN, but I think we should hold the program to a higher standard.
Like I just said, OSU missing a bowl last year had DICK to do with Gordon Gee and had everything to do with the bowl ban. Your question is absurd in that it patently ignores the fact.

This is true, but it's also indisputable that we would have been the one left out of any three-way undefeateds debate. It's also clear that this 24-1 team would not have even made the four team playoff were it in effect this year. There is definite merit in the OP's questioning of the lack of respect for Ohio State. I just think a lot of other things than Gee's big mouth are at play.

Uh huh.

Guess how many shits I give about what the talking heads say.

The media trolls OSU because we have a huge, and impassioned, fan base. Need web hits? Rip OSU. It has nothing to do with football, and you're kidding yourself if you think the average football fan gives a good god damn what Gordo said.

We've talked about OSU's lack of respect ad nauseam on this site, as you know. And that's not to say what you're saying here is incorrect, and I agree, it has shit to do with Gee's mouth. But, that's the point.... the idea it was Gee's fault is patently absurd

Auburn wasn't jumping tOSU. Also, i meant to vote for only the second option but i chubby fingered it and voted for the bottom 2. To argue we've become the new boise is to argue that the B1G is close to as bad as the WAC was during Boise's run, which is silly. The B10 is on par with the other major conferences, although the PAC and SEC appear to be the cream of the crop
