Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

Just being honest. Why should I pretend to have a favorite team in the NBA when the faces constantly change in each city. The players are the brand. Not the other way around like football and baseball, IMO. I watch it for entertainment, I have no emotional investment in it like I do with other sports.

You're invested enough to keep along with it, though.

I just don't see the point of watching sports or maintaining the involvement that you seem to have if there is zero emotional connection....?

Really? I mean I don't care a great deal for NBA but I still can enjoy the occasional portion of a game. I also understand the notion of liking a player as much as any team in the NBA. While my preference is for the Cavs to win, I'm a fan of LeBron and was happy to see him succeed wherever.

Point being, you care a little and admit to being a Lebron fan.

While the opposite is being claimed by Mike who says he has emotional investment.

I guess my emotional investment, in regards to the NBA, is in the players. Not the TEAM. That's the difference. Because the NBA has built their brand on individual players who have no problem going where the money takes them, I'm not going to invest in a team. I enjoy basketball, so why pigeon hole myself in to watching one team all my life when the players are going to be out of there in a season or two. That's how the NBA marketed themselves so that's how I'm going to watch the NBA.

Since I used the term "emotional investment," I guess you could say I'm emotionally invested in LeBron's career. That's why I continued to follow him when he left for Miami, and that's why I still root for him now that he's in Cleveland.

I'm almost 40, I've witnessed 4 1/2 championships by my favorite TEAMS in my lifetime, and 2 by my favorite player. I don't know if that's a good, bad, or average amount compared to other people, but I've enjoyed them all.

Here's to LeBron getting some more.

Then how do you root for any team ever? It's not like the NBA is the only league with free agency. Heck, UM turns over the entire roster every 4-5 years.

Seems pretty arbitrary to me, but that's just my IMO.

You have certainly stayed true. As have a few others. Others have changed tunes.

I love the dude for how he plays the game. Always have. Fwiw, I doubt Cleveland would have won a great deal had he stayed. Somehow this managed to work out better than one could have hoped. And I certainly don't blame James for anything he did-it's his life.

Well they still have to win something... otherwise it's roughly the same outcome.
