Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakers)

I still think he's an ego-maniacal, semi-literate, man-child. But, he plays for my team, so I hope he does well. Like I said, I'm a Cavs fan, not a LeBald fan.
You have certainly stayed true. As have a few others. Others have changed tunes.

I love the dude for how he plays the game. Always have. Fwiw, I doubt Cleveland would have won a great deal had he stayed. Somehow this managed to work out better than one could have hoped. And I certainly don't blame James for anything he did-it's his life.

I'll bet the highs and lows of this thread and peoples opinion of Lebron would be pretty hilarious reading material.

For me it was the way he did it that I always had a problem with. But in terms of "changing my tune"...I have some as he has some. I still think The Decision was a colosally shitty thing to do. Not leaving, but the TV thing. I still think he cries to the refs too much.

But, on the other hand, people said he quit when the going got tough. The other night, he started shitty, got hurt twice, and still hit the last 2 shots. People said he couldn't win by himself. He just won 2 series with little Love and little Kyrie. Even if you hate him, its hard to say he hasn't shown you something this year.

I don't blame him for leaving. But, I do blame him for how he handled it in a couple of ways...1) essentially holding the Cavs hostage for several years refusing to sign an extension. That absolutely hamstrung them being able to put a good supporting cast around him. Premier FA's weren't going to look at Cleveland with the possibility of LBJ bolting soon after. 2) There's been indications that Wade, Bosh, and LBJ schemed to join forces in 2010 at the 2008 Olympics. That's some shady crap. 3) Obviously "The Decision." For somebody so conscious about his image, he had to be incredibly obtuse to think that was a good idea.

Leaving is one thing. The way it was handled was another. It revealed his true character. Maybe his letter from last summer was legit. Maybe Miami was like college for him and he grew up. But I tend to think it was just more branding. He saw his kingdom crumbling in south beach, and he saw a Cavs roster with a lot of young talent and an owner ready and willing to spend to put the missing pieces around him. In the end, him leaving for 4 years put them in the position they're now in. But, had he committed to the franchise earlier in his career, they may have been able to put the pieces around him to already have a couple of titles. Who knows.

I'm glad he came back, because it made the Cavs interesting again. Those were four dreadful years. Look how excited everyone was about signing Andrew Bynum's corpse a couple of summers ago. There was NOTHING here. Now there is. So in the end I guess it all worked out.

I'm right with ya.....call me cynical, but coming back to CLE was just LBJ taking the easy route again. It's not about loyalty, it's not about friendship, it's about him....just like it has always been.

I can't really fault him for doing what he did, but he's still a whiny prima donna.....but now he's our whiny prima donna.

Kinda like the Michigan boards on Hoke and RR threads, to name a few. The Harbaugh out of control nonsense being spewed by Michigan fans is already downright hilarious (and sad, and pathetic, to name a few), and the Michigan fan base has yet to even turn its back on jimmy.

Yes it is all about him. Th difference is that I never blamed him for that. In the end, it's his life and he needs to do what is good for him. He has done that, quite effectively. Meanwhile, on the court, he simply turns average into something more than that. He is the engine that makes this team more than just the sum of their parts. That's a really cool thing when a player can actually do that.

If he had handled leaving better you would have almost thought it was planned for him to go to Miami for 4 years so the Cavs could build a team then come back when the roster was ready for him. The Cavs would have never been able to build a title contender if Lebron had stayed and I think he realized that. I'm not sure if there was any way for him to leave without the vitriol, but the way he did it was the worst thing he could do.

Regardless of what the Warriors have done this year if the Cavs roster was at 100% they would be the favorite in the Finals and nobody should count them out even in their current state. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and Lebron knows that winning 4 of the next 7 games will do more for his legacy than anything he has done to this point in his career. Sure coming back to Cleveland was taking the easy path last summer, but with Love out and Kyrie not at 100% this series will be squarely on Lebron's shoulders. I will personally be shocked if we don't see him scraping and clawing for everything he can get against the Warriors even if it is just to add to his own legacy.

He absolutely should do what is best for him -- I get that and don't begrudge him that at all. But he insults our intelligence by pretending his motivation is anything other than that.
