LeBron to Clippers?
I believe that if Blake Griffin has no more setbacks to his timetable and returns without ill effect from his injury, he could have an impact that goes beyond just making the Clippers competitive in the West. He might put them in the hunt for LeBron James next summer. I still believe James, the reigning NBA MVP, will re-up with the Cavaliers after he becomes a free agent in July. But if he opts to take his game elsewhere, he will be weighing the championship potential of his new team and the intangibles of his new hometown. Why not L.A.? It has all the intangibles an NBA player could want.

Do you have any idea how many of these shoes will sell in NYC alone? Business move here and a smart one. Add on the speculation, and that many more people will see his shoes all over the internet and TV.OH10;1632974; said:What is the legitimate purpose of this other than continuing to fuel speculation?
NFBuck;1633018; said:LBJ is a brand. Fueling speculation draws interest in the brand especially when you're stoking the interest of a huge metropolitan area. I don't like it, but I get it. I also don't read anything into it. The Knicks franchise is a mess. LBJ wants to win.
I don't know, I have a very strange optimism regarding this whole situation. For a jaded Cleveland sports fan, that's very strange. I guess I just look at it like this: how much more money is LBJ gonna earn going to NY/NJ? He's already a global icon. He's got more money than he can possibly know what to do with. He's very loyal to his family/friends, all of whom are located IN NE Ohio. He stands to benefit more from winning a title than taking the big paycheck to be part of a total rebuilding project in a disfunctional organization (NY) or a historical loser (NJ). It wouldn't shock me if he bolted, I just don't think he will.OH10;1633438; said:I have tried to buy into the concept that A) He wants to win; and B) He knows his best chance is in Cleveland.
But would this team have/had a better chance to win the title this year if he wasn't continuing to fuel the speculation? Would we have had a better chance with free agents? And does it help to hold your franchise and your fans hostage, not knowing if you'll be here for the long run?
What he is doing is not consistent with wanting to be here and wanting to win. It is entirely consistent with what someone would do if they had one foot out the door already.
Eh, you're not alone in that opinion. I think it just gets tiresome worrying about it and reading the nonstop speculation. There was an article written last month rationalizing him going to the Clippers for Christ's sakes. THE CLIPPERS.I know I get mocked for it. I guess I don't care because I'm pretty secure with my status as a real Cavs fan, not just some Johnny ComeLately. I was here before Lebron. I will be here after. And I really do believe this franchise is bigger than Lebron. His antics, financially motivated or not, piss me off.
NFBuck;1633441; said:AS for the franchise being bigger than LBJ, eh, I guess so. But make no mistake, if he bolts, that's devastating. Attendance will dwindle. They'll basically be in rebuilding mode for a long time and I have a hard time believing they'll be able to attract any really good FA's to speed up a rebuild. It would be a significant blow. Not just to the Cavs, but Cleveland sports as a whole. If a player like that leaves without a title (though this year certainly isn't out of the question), egads.
Like I said, I don't like it, but I understand it. He's a brand. Allowing this speculation stokes interest the brand. It's the same as recruiting in college.
I'm just trying to sit back and enjoy this season. Hopefully it ends better than last. I'll start my fretting in June.
The good news is we have an owner that is willing to spend to put the best product out there and, I believe, one of the best GMs in the business. If they lose a guy like LBJ, I have to think they will find a way to get a decent product out there as soon as possible.OH10;1633524; said:Good post. I always appreciate your insight.
And you're right: from a financial standpoint, it would be difficult to survive without him. I'm just a little sick of the mockery, fueled in no small part, by Lebron himself.
"I think LeBron would gain in stature by coming to the Knicks," Frazier said. "I think if he signed with the Knicks, he'd be right up there with Kobe.
