Edit, I just remembered this thread. http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/professional-basketball/628513-nba-officiating.html
All it takes is to watch one Scott Foster game. The guy just destroys Heat opponents in the first half of games but scales it back in the third and especially the fourth quarters.
To someone who passively watches the game, you wouldn't notice a thing. 50/50 calls on who the ball went out on, moving screens, tone-setting calls through the paint, etc. It's obvious as day to those who really understand the intricacies of a game.
But it adds up. Just a quick math problem. If you assume an NBA team will shoot 50% from the field, and you give them 4 "extra possessions" on tipped balls out of bounds that are "50/50" calls, 2 extra possesions on questionable offensive fouls, and 6 free throws in the first half on horrible shooting calls.
That's likely worth 10 points. Easily. Give Miami a 10 point lead at the half and see what happens....
I'd challenge anyone to go back and watch Scott Foster's protection of Miami throughout this playoffs. Every 50/50 ball has been given to Miami, and a majority had video evidence to prove his call was wrong. His handling of the Chicago Bulls was insane. And his handling of the Sam young/Brian Shaw technicals was worse. The guy has a 14-1 record for Miami when calling their games, and it shows when you watch the tape.
It's actually horrifying the NBA keeps trotting him out for games. It's basically a huge middle-finger to the public. Watch the Vegas line of a Heat game with Foster as an official. He's worth multiple points alone...
